LL check if any of your shrubs would be best planted now...even if it is into a temporary holding bed ;)

Would that be better than transplanting to bigger pots. I was thinking, because the plants are quite small I could protect them better in pots if the weather got really bad. If it's just for a few months is there a danger of them getting pot bound and dying or getting diseased.

I will google them and see what the advice is. I know camellias can be tricky. I bought my mother one and it grew into a beauty, but mine hasn't done very well. I think the soil ph was wrong in this garden. I'll know to check next time.

LL - I grow Camellias in pots as I have heavy clay soil. they will be perfectly OK in pots as they have a fairly shallow rooting system.. They do need ericacious soil. While they are young I would keep them in a sheltered spot. Dont let them dry out over the winter but dont swamp them either! They're not really tricky they just need you to be aware of their their specific requirements. When you do plant them (either in the ground or keep them in a pot) they like to have a bit of shade and in a place where when its frosty the morning sun doesnt hit them as otherwise the buds will drop off. Sounds a lot I know but once they're in the correct position and in the correct soil you can leave them pretty much alone.

  • Hi Everyone,
I've been reading along regularly but haven't posted in a while as I've been out & about with my 13yr old DD during the summer holidays.
Not feeling that fab as I've spent the last few days painting my living room and now have an inflamed & stiff knee from all the climbing up & down the ladder. Just remembered actually that I might have injured it whilst cutting back an overgrown willow tree. I was on my own & the only way I could access parts of it was by balancing the ladder on the trampoline below it.
Sawing whilst trying not to bounce off the ladder was interesting!!
Good job the neighbours are used to me!:rotfl:

Anyway, just wanted to wish LL all the best for Monday and this exciting new chapter.

Hope everyone's having a great weekend.

Hi Lucy .....thanks for your good wishes. I am sorry to hear about your knee. Hope it gets better soon. Actually reading how you did it does ring alarms bells for me. I think I might have to learn from you.

Although I feel better after my acupuncture my right knee (the one with the torn meniscus) does still bother me. The other knee which is "just arthritis" is fine, no pain at all now. Unfortunately because the meniscus has no blood supply it cannot heal itself so it's always going to be a bit of an issue until I have full replacement knee surgery. And of course I am in no hurry for that. I can cope with the current level of pain and discomfort and am hoping maintenance sessions of acupuncture will keep things stabilised. As long as I avoid aggravating it I should be fine.

I was only thinking all this the other day, how best to manage things. I have come to the conclusion that it might be wiser for me to avoid too much ladder work.

I had intended to do as much work myself as possible to save money but I think I might have to pay for some help with the decorating .....if only for the ceilings. Unusually for a bungalow They are high. My plan was to start overpaying the mortgage next January. I think I might have to put that idea on hold for now and buy in some help instead.

Ah the joys of ageing... . Still it beats the alternative. :rotfl: but in all seriousness I think the time has come for me to give in gracefully and finally admit I'm not Wonder Woman after all. Lol.

My mum often used to chide me for trying to do everything myself, telling me to delegate some of the hard physical tasks. Ok mum, you win.

I have to admit it's hard for a control freak like me to admit defeat and ask for help but I'm determined not to lean too heavily on the boys. So I am going to start employing decorators now for the big jobs.

Well I'm all packed, just a few final bits. I will give the kitchen and bathroom a final clean today and then just hoover through as the removal men empty each room. I Just need to make sure everything is clearly labelled.

I won't have any broadband for couple of weeks so will probably be incommunicado for a while.

Wish me luck.......and I'll see you all "on the other side". :rotfl:

    Happy Fabbing.

    Xx

  • Wishing you well, LL. Hope you love your bungalow as much as we love ours.

Talking of decorating, when we fist bought our bungalow it all had to be replastered, so while it was empty my husband got his spraygun and sprayed every wall white. We really like it so have kept it.

However yesterday I thought it might be nice to have a 'feature wall' in the living room so we have wallpapered the alcoves and the wall opposite. It's in a sort of faded 'greige' pattern and looks really good.

The rest of the bungalow is white and grey but the sofas are brown so it matches all the colours.

This colour is greige for those who don't know: https://cdn.wallpaperdirect.com/shared-assets/images/products/142069_1_orig.jpg
