That's "The Accidental Further Adventures of the 100 year old Man" finished. I enjoyed it. This time the story is set in the present rather than referring to historic events, so we have real, crazy world events, real, crazy/less crazy world leaders and , of course, a crazy Allan Karlsson and his crazy life.
Next up for me is99 by Bobbie Doctor, on Flickr
It's a psychological thriller based on an 8 year old girl going missing.
This will be my 6th book with cardinal numbers in the title. I'll stick with this challenge for October and November. In December I plan to read Christmas related books/stories (usually pure fluff), so I'd appreciate any recommendations.
I remember I have read -
* Kissing Christmas Goodbye MC Beaton
* The Proof is in the Pudding Joanna Sheen/Julia Wherrell
* Bah Humbug Heather Horrocks
* The Christmas Bake Off Abby Clements
* The Christmas Star Diane Darcy
*Christmas at Rosie Hopkins' Sweetshop Jenny Colgan
* A Christmas Carol Charles Dickens
Thanks in advance.Sewing 88/COLOR]Woollies 19Card s 91Reading 37/400 -

I've seen this on chazzer shelves on more than one occasion, and left it right there. People are entitled to their opinions, but I won't be reading them if they set out to be disrespectful. The very sight of Richard Dawkins name on the cover was enough to turn me off.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
"No man is worth, crawling on the earth"- adapted from Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio
Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

Lincoln in the Bardo. Last year's Booker winner from George Saunders
Amazing! Told by various spirits. I could not put it down.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Are you willing to read children's literature? If so I can really recommend The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy M Boston, Jo of the Chalet School by Elinor M Brent Dyer (only the second in the series so not too hard to 'catch up', IYSWIM), The Box of Delights by John Masefield and The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper. All very good and very seasonal0 -
Hmm, VfM4meplse, I think I’ll leave that one alone too!
Oh yes, children’s books count! Of your suggestions, Callie22, the only one I haven’t read is “The Dark is Rising”! As a teacher, I collected a LOT of children’s Christmas books. My grandkids’ favourite is “Jesus’ Birthday Party”; it’s a picture book and the boys are 10 now!
Just remembered I have read John Grisham’s “Skipping Christmas” also.
Thanks for the suggestions - keep them coming.Sewing 88/COLOR]Woollies 19Card s 91Reading 37/400 -
+1 for the Susan Cooper, I was part of a twitter reading group last year that read it in real time in December (although as a binge reader I couldn't stick to that)0

On a totally different note, a nice Christmassy book is Winter Solstice by Rosamonde Pilcher. It's not too heavy and has all of the right elements - Scotland, snow, a couple of gentle love stories, fortuitous inheritances and so on.0
-
I've added "Winter Solstice" to my list. Thanks, Callie. I've not read one of her books for years.
And "An Island Christmas" by Jenny Colgan.Sewing 88/COLOR]Woollies 19Card s 91Reading 37/400 -
If you like Amanda Prowse then she has written a few Christmas books too - Christmas for One, I won't be home for Christmas and The Second Chance Cafe. If you have a Kindle I think quite a few of her books are 99p at the moment. A few of Lucy Dillon's books are 'wintery' too, although I'm note sure if any are specifically Christmassy. Tricia Ashley's A Winter's Tale is enjoyable too.0

Some good Christmas choices ... What about The christmas train by David Baldacci. I meant to buy it as a book for years but never got round to it. Then I subscribed to my libray's online service and downloaded it as an audio book. It tells the tale of a journalist who gets a train to meet his girlfriend for Christmas and the people he encounters along the way. Little bit of romance, snow, theft and tales along the way. Good listenI got there - I'm debt free and intend to stay that way. If I haven't got the cash, it doesn't get bought. It's as simple as that.0
