The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ.
Wow. Amazing, thought-provoking and very clever. By Philip PullmanMember #14 of SKI-ers club

It’s really superb.... it started out as my book before bed but I just kept wanting to read on, so now it’s my after work relaxing read before/after supper.
Recommended!
It was me who asked. Thanks for the update.
The book is now on the shelf of my bedside table (where I keep my library books). I collected it last Thursday from the library and I will read it in the next few weeks.0 -
Behind Her Eyes The Sunday Times #1 best selling psychological thriller.
I read that there was a startling twist at the end, but it began to be absurd towards the ending anyway and the twist was just silly!:rotfl:0 -
Book 44:
7/10. This book had a strange effect on me, in as much as it induced hypervigilance and siege mentality. Seriously, it came with all kinds of handy tips that I had no idea about and was an easy read. It was also funny in places.
As I read it, I imagined Russell Crowe or Ray Winstone narrating the content to me. In reality, the author hails from Newcastle - so probably sounds more like Jimmy Nail :rotfl:Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Book 44:
6.5/10. I P'Inned this after hearing it discussed on WH in the summer, I think listeners had nominated as a life-changing book, so was pleased to find it on a chazzer shelf the week before last and decided to read it this afternoon. I found it slow-going at first, but by the time I got halfway through it was very touching. After that it went downhill again for me, it felt like the writer had introduced order into her characters' lives and then I went and smashed it all up. I can see how the story came full circle, I just don't get the rave reviews.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I've just started on Oliver Sacks "Hallucinations."
Only to be disappointed in the first chapter when he announced he wasn't tackling schizophrenia as it merits a book in its own right.. Which was why I had the book in the first place.
I will persevere, because his books are generally interesting and readable regardless of the subject matter. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

finished Philip Kerr's "False Nine". Not his best, but an interesting setting (football) and I did not guess the solution, so that's always good.

Book 46:
8.5/10. Ok, so it's a children's book....but it was so well-written, gentle and touching, I thought it was a great read. I'd been meaning to read it for a while but it wasn't until I found it for 25p in a chazzer last month I got the chance. It was a very worthwhile way of spending an evening.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Based on recommendations on this thread I've read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. I absolutely loved it, funny, sad, touching and well written. Thanks to all the contributors to this thread as you've helped me find some real treasures to read this year.0
