Tui holidays rip off

hi
I was just wondering where I stand, Back in April 2017 I booked a dream family holiday to Memories splash park in the Dominica Republic, 2 adults 2 kids 14th December for two weeks, I went into my local tui office the Kingsgate centre in huddersfield, after 1 hour of discussions we agreed to book this holiday (having been told by the sales girl there was only 3 rooms left for this hotel) at a cost of £6182.96, I had done my online research and all the holidays for this time to this destination was around the same figure some little less some more, but we liked the look of the hotel with water slides for the kids.
Great we thought!!!!!
At the end of November my oldest daughter decided she wanted to come with us (tough year at university) so again I went into the same Tui office in huddersfield, the manager was on the front desk at the time I asked her to check if we could book my daughter onto this holiday either my us upgrading to a bigger room or a additional room for her, the manager checked and I was told the flight was full and there was no rooms left at all in this hotel.
Not to be defeated the next day I thought I would try near by hotels so I went on the tui website at home typed in the dates etc, to my disbelief my holiday the one which I had parted £6182.96 and was told previous was all full, was been advertised at 50% sale and had 8 rooms left, I was gutted.
My wife went down to the Tui office to see if we could get some money back or to see if this was a internet error, we was told that could not have anything back and it was NOT a error our holiday was now £3091 for 2 adults and 2 kids.
I feel Ripped off by tui and yes I understand holidays going up and down in price but you don't expect it to the tune of 3k
Has anyone else experienced something similar and is there anything I can do ?
Thank you for your time reading this

You paid what you thought was a good price. You are not due a refund.
Although I assume you mean 14 Dec 2018? In which case, look at how much it will cost to cancel this far out and rebook at the new price.0 -
Have you been or do you mean dec 18.
Either way you haven’t been ripped off you paid what you thought was a good price.
Does seem a little odd they told you it was full if you could still book online, I assume when you returned and they told you it was still available you then added your daughter on to the booking?0 -
do the maths. you may just have to lose the deposit0

That thread title requires to be changed. There has been no "rip off"Mortgage free
Vocational freedom has arrived0 -
No rip off and just for info, there is no such place as the Dominica Republic.
There is the Dominican Republic & there is Dominica which are two separate countries and if you are applying for a Visa or inoculations for your trip, you have to be very precise when filling out the paperwork.
The agent may well have been correct in saying that there were only 3 rooms available when you booked as the hotel may only have released some rooms and the others became available later.0 -
If the price is reduced that would indicate spare capacity at a later date which they wanted to sell.
Maybe some other company pulled out or had unsold holidays that they released onto the market.0 -
That's how it works unfortunately. For all you know, it was indeed almost full when you booked, so prices were up, but then 8 family cancelled, maybe for good reasons and so reimbursed by their insurance. That leaves tiu with trying to book these at the last minute and so prices going down significantly.
Also, you said the flights were full. Maybe the only way to get there during that time meant three different stops, or much more expensive flights.
Who knows, but you were not ripped off, you paid a lot more to guarantee your dream holiday at the time and that was the price of it.0 -
Wow. £6K!!!
Your first problem is that you could have gone somewhere really nice for that and you chose the Dominican Republic!!!0 -
A friend cancelled to the Maldives and then rebooked losing the deposit. Still worked out worth it with what was saved.0
