Day trip flight cancelled - Lastminute

Hi,

We booked a day trip through Last minute, our outbound flight was cancelled in the morning when we were at the airport through Ryanair. We waited on standby for the evening flight which was also cancelled while we waited 7 hours in the airport.

We therefore missed our return flight the next day through easyjet as there were no other flights to get there and last minute have told us we can't get refunds for anything?!

I have been reading about compensation claims, but have not found anything with a similar situation for a day trip to claim compensation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Also we had to pay for transportation to and from the airport (train tickets) would we be able to claim for this and who should we contact?

why was the morning flight cancelled? - if weather then no compensation due
Easyjet flight was a separate contract and no compensation for missing flight
Have you spoken to your travel insurance to see what they may cover?
