Hi All
Hope you don't mind if I join in for the month.
I need a bit of a quick sort out, so thought I'd do a quick version of the minimalists game on my own for the month.
day 1 get rid of one thing, day two get rid of two things, etc....
So 28 days in Feb, should be over 400 things. i'll do them in fits and bursts - being out of the house for 12+ hours in a day limits your sorting out hours.
I'm actually pretty good at sorting things, but not as good at actually getting them out of the house. I hate, just hate, things going to land fill, so will go to extreme measures to find someone who wants thing very item I have. I also rescue things from other people, to re-distribute. But I prefer a more minimalist life style, I guess I'm a minimalist womble.
I'm going to count when I repair something and it returns to normal use (e.g. I've a few Jumpers / shoes that I've had put aside to repair for ages, they'll no longer be clutter when they can be worn again!) I'm also counting things I clear from the car, work, etc... if its mine or the house and I get rid of it, it counts!
So here it goes.
1. Bag of magazine cuttings out to recycling
2. Small bag of bits of plastic toys/lego/jewelry left behind by nieces ready to drop back to them on Sunday
3. Pair of gloves I knitted for my niece, packaged up ready for post (I did make them last year so they count)

purplevamp, I find books harder to get rid of than anything else! I'm trying really hard to be strong and have put a few to one side to sell, I need to post them quickly or they'll end up back in the bookcaseGC 2023 June £72/500 NSDs 1/100

Thanks, Mrs Salad dodger, I think I've up to day 7 already sorted just waiting to get out of the house :rotfl:
But a very fair point, I don't underestimate the effort. If I even get to 10, or 7, that's progress and I won't get disheartened.
Thanks for the reminder Ocean spirit, digital clutter is a big deal. I'll focus on physical as much as possible. But they are inter-related. I scanned in about 50% of our family photos going back to the turn of the century (Great great grand parents!) I want to re-visit this, and sort out PC before it dies. And its one I can do a bit of work on during the day at lunch break if I bring my PC in to work!0 -

Good luck FrugalWorker, that's a good plan to get your mind focused.
The Bit in Bold sounds like me - apart from a few sentimental stuff, I can usually agree to get rid of things, my problem is what to do with it. Like you, I hate the feeling of adding to landfill, so spend so much time sorting, then distributing between charity shops, a friend who does table sales, other friends who 'might' have a use for things and then finally Ragbags (if appropriate), that the whole process of clearing out takes much longer than it really should. I also do the same with MIL if she is throwing out something good, I'll offer to take it and find a good home for it (cue it spending several weeks in the car while I think about it :rotfl:). Need to stop - am actively resisting bringing things into the house, including really thinking about packaging materials in an attempt to keep the tide of 'stuff' at bay.0 -
