I've just looked through the terms & conditions and can't see that anywhere. No we havent been asked to pay anything for the recovery or the storage of the bike, just £30 to get my son home.0

I didn't know that Adrian. He slid on snow and hit a wall.

Clause 2 of General Exclusions, top of p13The_AA wrote:2. Basic Breakdown Cover does not provide assistance or recovery following an accident;
If you have been involved in an accident and require assistance, the AA may, at its discretion and upon payment of the appropriate fee, provide you with AA Membership Breakdown Cover, where assistance will be available. Where a roadside repair is not possible, if you agree we can arrange but not pay for, repairs or recovery of the vehicle from the scene of the accident, the fees and who is liable for these will be advised at the time.
It's not just the AA - you'll be hard pushed to find a recovery policy that won't apply similar. The expectation, of course, is that you pass the bill on to your insurer, who settle it with any other similar bills - such as for damage to the wall.0 -
He hasn't got basic cover, he has the full package. And there wasnt a collison, son slid/fell off. But ty anyway I'll now be ready for them if they do start - however I think if this was going to be applied then they would have said at the time.0

"Basic coverage" means their recovery membership. Homestart and Relay don't add post-collision recovery on to that. Relay took the bike to somewhere other than a local repairer. Homestart is irrelevant, because the bike didn't fail to start at home - he'd have been better off if it had... Falling off a motorbike in well-forecast snow is not exactly unpredictable.And there wasnt a collison, son slid/fell off.
If he just "slid/fell off", he'd be getting up and riding the undamaged bike home... But it was damage sustained when the bike collided with the ground and/or wall that made it unrideable, and necessitated the recovery, right?But ty anyway I'll now be ready for them if they do start
You mean if they start holding you to the terms of the contract you agreed to by paying them your membership fee? How very dare they.0 -

You obviously haven’t read it so have a look.

Many years ago when I was considering AA or RAC the RAC man told me that they their recovery service included after an accident , but AA didn't.
We used them three years ago when we slid off the road in snow and ended up upside down in a ditch. They recovered the car, collected us from the local A & E and brought us all home.0 -

We can transport your vehicle up to 150 miles from where the road traffic collision happened but you will have to pay for this service. We will advise you of the cost up front and if you accept the charge, you will have to pay the full amount to us within 180 days. We will help recover this cost from your motor insurer or the responsible third party0 -
Son came off his bike yesterday in the snow and called the AA. He's on husband's AA account.
We have roadside, relay & home start. Should the AA not have got him home? Can we complain about this and maybe get that money refunded?
No the AA shouldn't have taken him home. The AA is a breakdown service, your son had an accident. AA membership does not cover him for this.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Relay says we will take the car and passengers will be taken on to any destination.
Son says nobody said anything about any cost at the time.0
