AA Recovery Complaint
Son came off his bike yesterday in the snow and called the AA. He's on husband's AA account. They sent out a local garage who took the bike away but said he knew nothing about bringing my son home. Son asked him "can you not take me home?" and the garage offered to send a 4x4 to take him home at a cost of £30. Son was shaken up freezing and miles from home so he said ok and paid by card.
We have roadside, relay & home start. Should the AA not have got him home? Can we complain about this and maybe get that money refunded?

It's correctly known now as National Recovery (but a search for AA relay found it easily enough). It says:
"We’ll take you, your vehicle and up to 7 passengers to wherever you need to be – whether that’s back home, or to the start or end of your journey."
https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/national-recovery
The problem may be that the vehicle was going to a different place to the person, so they may be able to argue to they weren't bound to take the OP's son home.0 -
Yes, the AA blurb says "taken to a destination of your choice". The garage mechanic said he wasn't able to take my son anywhere he had just been told to pick up the bike. He said that again this morning when we phoned them to moan.0

Agrinall, we wanted the bike home here along with the son. I dont understand why they did what they did at all!0

sounds wrong then, you need to complain to the AA not the garage0

So this recovery was post-collision, rather than post-breakdown?
You do realise the AA charge in those circumstances, and recovery is not part of your policy? It's been clearly outlined in the Ts & Cs for many years.0 -
I didn't know that Adrian. He slid on snow and hit a wall.
Norman Castle I don't know what he said exactly, but there was nowhere else he could go, he was pretty far from home and not on a bus route.0 -

Exactly, and it looks like they’ll need to pay the recovery costs if they haven’t done so already.0
