I agree with Anna about the summer jobs. There are always loads being advertised in Swanage, so it'll be the same in Poole or Bournemouth.

BTW, you can get a bus to Swanage via the chain ferry, from Poole. There are even open top buses! And if you fancy a nostalgic journey on a train with the old carriages, you can get a steam or vintage diesel train from Swanage to Corfe or Wareham. I love going on those trains, I really miss those old carriages. Modern trains are just so bland!

But you need to get those CVs in to the agencies, because they'll be gearing up to recruiting for the summer season.

Thanks gigervamp . I think you have just gave me some ideas there regarding wareham etc. I love steam trains too. Have been on a few many years ago in different environments .
Yes, cv will go live next week . May even do that on Sunday . The time seems right . The only thing that is/ was hiolding me back ..is my belly. I am trying everything , but I guess the 5mg of prednisolone is retaining somewhere . Maybe when / if I eventually come off of that altogether the size problem will be in the past .
  • Today I was gonna venture out . Unfortunately , I've got boiler issues again  I wouldn't be surprised if the engineer did something to it when he fitted in the new air vent on Tuesday .
The problem I have had since last night ..heating on all the time . When I turned off heating , I got no hot water. When I turn on hot water , the heating stays on. Not good in the hottest spell f the year so far. :mad:So I spent all day trying to get a cost of the fault / what the fault is / is it worth taking out a monthly payment plan etc.
The Off shoot is that I have a different engineer from a different company coming around on Tuesday . He is recommended by one of the cheaper insurance companies and I will probably be given a proper assessment and cost should be cheaper . Long story but an annoyance which needs to be sorted .

Will be seeing friends tomorrow in poole for social gathering .
Cv should be sent properly to agencies.

I've done more or less everything I could regarding weight etc
I think the prednisolone may have something to do with that. It's just the belly sticking out . So annoying . Everything else looks improved.
One of the reasons I've been reluctant to get the cv out there .
I'm only on 5 mg of prednisolone now. 3 years ago , I was on so many of these tablets . No bread for almost a month . Mr. Trainer has faith in me ,so hopefully I can make more of an improvement in the summer.

Hope you're all having a good day

    Hi Harz/LL :) Hope all's well with you .

Well, a few things to mention . Apart from the beginning, where do I start ?:)
At times , everything is intertwined so to speak so this may be a bit of a long winded update.

Regarding the job situation : I signed up to the indeed website . This of course means I get daily updates of part time ( and sometimes full time ) posts in my area. My cv is loaded on their website and is there for all to see . I have applied for one job on Monday , as a cashier for a big name store. I don't expect to get an interview, and tbh it's different from my normal line of work . On top of that, the calendar where you input dates/ times of recent employment did not work on Mac OS X . I did mention that . It's a job where you would be expected to work anytime including bank holiday . I have a feeling though that if I were to get a trial run even , my gym schedule with personal trainer would be out of the window .

Speaking more of cv/ job hunting etc: I notice that people want your national insurance no.when applying for jobs. Normally, I'd go to an agency and they would scan my passport and that was that until I got a job . It is hard to condense my cv to 2 pages . Having left school in 1979 , my work was mainly permanent . Over the last 20 years it has been temp/ perm/ temp/ offered positions after temping , including the last horrendous place of employment where I had 3 temp contracts before they eventually offered me that permanent position
I have rejigged the cv a few times . The indeed website didn't allow for a cover letter . I could be wrong there , and will check again .
One thing that went against me regarding qualifications ( open book time ):)..I only have poor c s e grades but when I got certificates from school I ripped them up and spoke to nobody about it . Long story as I was only part time after the 3rd year of secondary school . I was one of those pupils who was overlooked by the teachers who seemed to concentrate on the unruly ones more . I basically gave up. No regrets, but when I was asked if I had any proof of certificates I had to say no on the job application form . I surprised so many by being the opposite in terms of employment , having taken very little sick time off over the years :)
I applied for another job also about a month ago, and if truth be told I wasn't really ready . Which brings us to..

The gym and wellbeing in general : I am still going to Mr. Trainer and he seems to be mightily impressed with everything . He is a great motivator . He understands the nervous system fully and works everything to accommodate my auto immune / motor neurone condition. He says that I have more determination than many "ordinary " people who attend the gym . I gave myself a kick last week and must explain a bit more . Up until I gave myself a wake up call, my legs were like anvils . I was in a terrible state. Even while reducing the waist size of my jeans , my legs were heavy as hell and even getting off the sofa was problematic . Mr. Instructor says I have a lot of natural muscular strength and seems to be really impressed with that . What I did last week was to do more homework at home on a daily basis and since last Thursday my legs now move much faster , as do I . Hopefully I'm turning the corner.
What annoys me about my condition , is that most people think "it's only the eye , you're making too much of it ./ isn't it time you looked for a job" etc. I've had that recently from a couple of my friends and although they mean well, it can by really infuriating . Having said that I am not one to mope and actually feel more ready to start doing what I have to do . That's that . Other things ...

Crazy spending stopped ages ago ( although I'm not standing on my laurels). The flat is all done . James visited me out of the blue last week to finish up things . There was only an ironing board / iron that had to be fitted onto the inside of cupboard door in kitchen . I thought he forgot , but fair play to him he came around and finished everything. I must say, I was lucky there.
The boiler is the only thing I paid out for . Unfortunately I was caught out . In hindsight I should've taken out cover for it last year. My plan of just paying for an annual service backfired . I had 2s and 3s just as I got it serviced. I now have a service contract at approx£17 per month. The only other time I got burned was with freeesat aerial installation . That's life in general though. Nobody gets 100% going for them their way :)

I'm as good as can be considering my cancer, thanks! Really looking forward to getting back to Swanage in just over a week. Don't suppose you've visited Compton Acres gardens have you? Thinking of going there one afternoon, as it looks nice on the website, and it's not far if we use the chain ferry.

I'm surprised that employers expect people our age to still have our o' level or CSE certificates. Mine got lost in one of my house moves donkey's years ago. I couldn't even tell you which examining board they were from, so couldn't get copies (not that mine were very good either, as I also pretty much gave up after the 3rd year. I did get a B in my English Language O' Level though!).

I wonder if on your CV you could put something like "I have a full employment history from the age of x (full details can be supplied) and in the last 15 years have done <insert job roles with dates here>"

Maybe speak to someone who can guide you on writing the best CV to see what they suggest?

Glad you're doing ok, and you're getting better with the training.

Hello again gigervamp . There's still a lot for me to explore . Haven't been to the Compton acres gardens just yet . I may go to swanage next eeek after the bank holiday . I've still got a fair bit of exploring to do .

As for the cv, it's just a bit of tweaking up tbh. I've decided to just go back 12 years( my last great job I got made redundant from/ the temping and my last position .) By doing this, even then I was one line over the 2 pages that potential employers have patience with:mad::rotfl: . I'll be sending the cv to local recruitment agencies this week. They may even tidy it up :) I've looked on fish for jobs and even trimmed their template. Worse problems out there. I'll get there :rotfl:
