My remote lock hasn't worked for at least 4 years (probably closer to 5) - and then the alarm started to play up so (having checked with insurance company that not having one wouldn't mean a massive increase in premiums, as a new alarm would have been expensive) that got totally disabled and I don't even have a box on the same key chain any more. My car's almost 15.5 years old.

Am I reading your post right though - does she really want to car share with you? It was bad enough car sharing with my son when I could claim first rights as it was my car, but there's no way I'd consider doing it with a neighbour - I'd rather be without a car!!

I had her on my insurance after my O.H. passed away, it lasted 12 months before car died, I was footing most of the bills and her driving terrified me, if I was in the car I was driving, as I purchased this car from my daughter told her Paula doing insurance with me as named driver to shut her up, she phoned tonight and mentioned hospital appointment for Thursday which she hinting at me taking her otherwise long bus trip and a taxi, as awkward to get to.
Do I need it or just want it.

I'm done for January, £5.18 over. Not too downhearted; it could have been a whole lot worse with DS2 "returned" to the fold. We also had to spend £300+ on new tyres for OH's 10 y.o. car, and £125 on a section of exhaust for my 20 y.o. Japanese grey-import van, which means we haven't "recovered" from Christmas quite as quickly as I'd like, but we're well on the way. I do keep some money in reserve for car-related disasters, but haven't had to dip into it. OH needs his for commuting, and my van is essential for my business, and allows me to help care for my 91 y.o. mother 25 miles away (and as a bonus gives us the opportunity for cheap mini-breaks) so we do need to run two vehicles.

The next two months are our council-tax "holidays" which means a bit extra in the housekeeping account to tuck away towards next Christmas - or the next vehicle-related bill. So I'll keep trying to keep expenditure down whilst keeping quality up...
