Is everyone actually collecting coins in a pot for this?

I have started to do that as I thought physically seeing it at the end of the year would be cool!

On the other hand I am going to start struggling soon to find the cash without withdrawing money from my bank account to put in the pot which sounds counterproductive!!

Just wondering whether I should open a savings account and put it straight in there from my bank account each week! Downside is I won't be able to surprise my other half with a jar of money at the end of the year, but upside is I will be earning a small amount of interest on it and I will be more able to keep up to date and transfer money across regularly!

I use a savings account and transfer into it every weekend. Its easier than taking from my cash, and it may accrue a small amount of interest.

I collect coins in a pot but you will need a very big pot to fit the whole year in I think! As I get enough coins in each denomination I bag them up and then once a week or 2 I have been popping to the bank with the bags to deposit, can only do 5 bags at a time so it works out fine that way. Once in the bank account I move it straight over to a savings account appropriately named "Shrapnel"

My weekly check in, been a steady week for me.

I have both a savings account and a pot in my office for my spare cash. I transfer some money when I get paid and take the coins to the bank when I have enough.

I had those tins that you had to open with a tin opener last year (they are awful to open) I ended up with 2 of them, but I had put notes in as well as coins.

just a quick update to say I'm regularly putting in my save a penny a day tin. I've literally been emptying my purse and putting half of the change in there that I have each day. Sometimes it's like £1 or £2, sometimes its £4.50 - depends what's in there. Mum gave me a fiver she owed me yesterday and I put that straight in there. I have no clue how much I have in there now. I'm just making a determined effort to save something every day at least the minimum on the date in question - and that way I will have a nice surprise to open . I'm going to try and get a bit ahead as I want to use this fund for christmas expense 2018, so I plan on opening it 1 December.

What's the grocery spend challenge? I'll have to look into that one. :) x
