This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

    Morning everyone

Dumpling I was really sorry to hear about Becky. At least she is back at the unit where she will be safe. Steve sounds like a real rock it is good that you have his support.

FBO I hope that you managed to get some rest last night. I’m thinking of you and your family.

I’m beginning to feel like I haven’t been outside in fresh air for months rather than days, so am hoping that someone will be able to come for a short walk with me today.

Yesterday was mostly spent reading and watching TV, and I think that today will be spent the same way.

I’ve been really good this year with the online sales. I had a look yesterday at the price of a few things that I was thinking of buying and decided that I can’t really afford to spend any money, and that everything on my list was a want rather than a need, so I came out of the web sites and won’t be buying anything.

Get well wishes to all of you who are unwell, and I hope that things improve for those who have difficulties/problems at the moment. Take care. X

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off, good to hear you're feeling better x

FBO - thinking of you and your family x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark, rain now lashing at the windows, but we'd had a frost late last night, so an amber warning in place for ice. Temperature due to lift during the day and become windy again later.

DH and myself enjoying peaceful cuppas, boys still in their pits.

Dinner last night was pork, LO mash, cauli cheese, LO brussels, broc and gravy. Not sure about tonight but still plenty of food in so will be able to find something, may do pasta or rice type dish.

We went to town first thing yesterday morning to visit building society, buy DH some new work boots and pick up some bread, milk and kitchen towel, which turned into some cook from frozen meat joints, (they were on offer) and a bottle of wine, and some salt also. Need to stop this extra top up shops.

Hairdresser came even earlier yesterday she text and said she'd got done early at appointment before mine so she could come early, so she was gone by 3.45pm.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks HOLLY. You had us all worried when you went AWOL Xmas Day. I have just been catching up on all yesterday's posts and was so relieved to see yours.

But also very sad to read DUMPLING's post. Poor Becky, my heart goes out to you all. FBO too. That is such tragic news. Christmas really is the worst of times for some people to get through. My thoughts are with you and your families and praying for good news.

Yesterday was mostly taken up with the trek to St James at Leeds. It was so cold waiting around for buses and trains. Anyway, Mr TA's scan result. It was never going to reveal the tumours had gone or shrunk but it did show very little growth and no further spread since his last scan. So that was the best news we could have hoped for. The radionuclide therapy, that some of you may remember he had in Liverpool, is still not being funded but if it is he will be referred back for that. Meanwhile he will keep on the monthly injections.

I am still like the proverbial dying duck with this dratted "8 week virus" and sick to death of coughing. It wears me out. I am now well into the 5th week. Mr TA seemed to escape my extended version and he was just coughing and sneezing for a few days. So few people hereabouts have escaped one version or another, it's been spreading like the plague!!

We have the 3 girls this afternoon as DD is working. Middle one just for a short time as she has a pantomime performance tonight and the chaperone will come to pick her up. The bug has even hit the Sunbeam troupe and much swapping of parts and standing-in has been going on - the show must go on!

I suppose I ought to think about doing a half hearted clean round this morning. Illness etc has paid it's price and everywhere looks so neglected.

Have a good day folks if you can and take care. Wrap up warm if you are out and about. We were forecast heavy snow showers but so far it's just been a light covering. xx

  • Morning all. Bitterly cold here with snow forecast. So pleased that DH
and I are retired, no going out at ridiculous o'clock anymore.

FBO, what an awful thing to happen - thinking of you and your family.

HH, if you are wanting fresh air it's certainly fresh out there this morning, wrap up if you do go out.

TA, glad things are no worse for Mr TA, don't do too much, you'll soon catch up with the house when you're feeling better.

Bit of shopping to do today, don't need food though apart from veg and bread. I'm going to look in the charity shops, I haven't done that for a while. I reined myself in because I was always in the chazzers, but l still like to pop in now and again.

Hope everyone has as good a day as they can.
  • Good morning All

    Good morning all,

The HT and I are on our second cuppas of the morning. It's raining hard but at least we don't have the fluffy white stuff that was predicted for the other side of the Pennines.

FBO sorry to hear your news. Keep talking - I've always found that the more that you lock your fears up inside yourself the bigger and more scary they become.

TA it sounds like you have the HT's version of this bug and I have Mr TA's version as I haven't been anywhere near as ill as the HT (thank goodness). I hope everyone that has either version is better soon. We've had the humidifier running all week though in attempt to ease the coughs.

Hollyharvey I haven't been anywhere near the sales either. My Christmas present from the HT was spot on and there's nothing that I need enough to make me go near the kind of crowds my sister described (she was out at the cinema to escape her hungover children).

My car was fixed yesterday. I put money aside all year round in case anything goes wrong and the final bill wasn't anything like I expected. I'd be ok without it most of the time but even walking to the top of the road in the cold to collect it was hard yesterday. Asthma and a cold virus is never a good combination. Off to get washed and dressed - it's the day of the week where my dressing change is done officially at the doctors. I've been promoted by the way, I only have to go once a week now instead of twice - I can do the rest on my own as I've clearly demonstrated that I'm able for it.

    Take care all of you
  • FBO Will be thinking of you I don't know if you have a local charity called mind they may be able to offer you some help i know they do counselling and you can self refer x

    Morning all.

It’s snowing heavily here in Glasgow though rain is forecast for this afternoon. I’m hoping to get into town later to collect an order from the A pple shop, just a case for my phone which I’ve been undecided about for ages.

FBO - my thoughts are with you.

TA - the news about MrTA is on the ‘good’ scale.

Cranky - one of my friends had a knee implant which left a rather large hole which was dressed with stuff derived from seaweed. She too was allowed to change the dressing herself after some time and the hole has now closed up.

I’m ready to go home so fingers crossed for clear roads tomorrow. Today I’ll be mostly reading, I could get used to this relaxing lark. :rotfl:

No news on the name of the newest addition to the family.

I wish everyone a happy Friday and hope that all the poorlies are on the mend.

    Morning

FBO you have been in my thoughts all night I hope you are as well as you can be after this terrible shock
Holly is it wise to be out yet? You've not chosen the best of days weather wise for walking so hope you take it very easy or stay in

Persisting it down here today and at 8.30 its still dark :( much rather the wet stuff than the white stuff though at least it doesn't hold you hostage.

I'm obviously all christmassed out now ...i had a picky buffet last night which is normally a favourite of mine and left 3/4s of it. So its back to normal for me :j Took all my cards down and made a note of who sent them ...i forget some peoples partners or kids names so this year they are all written on the back of my calendar.

Need to pick up a birthday card for another friend this morning then a few of us are off to lunch to celebrate it....it will be a turkey free zone though :D

Gers i once went to stay with a friend in Glasgow for Hogmanay and it was certainly an experience  I remember them suggesting i go to bed about 9pm for a couple of hours as the party didnt start till 11.30 :D I was young enough to cope then but now 11.30 is way past my bed time :o

Right best shift my bum have a good day all if you can :A

    Morning all,

Christmas is so hard on many of us, not many of us have ideal families, live in ideal situations. If we are strong enough we grin and bear it and remind ourselves that its just another day.

Not sure what today will bring, probably a day in since I have no reason to go out.

On a lighter note, I still haven't found me pants. I had 6 but can only account for 5. Yes im anal enough to count them. Its playing havoc with my OCD, as is Christmas itself.

FBO praying for your cousin and for Becky too.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all
