Use Google Drive, then you can use GoogleFinance(ULVR,"price") to display the price of Unilever on a Google Drive spreadsheet
Then you can have another column with the number of shares you have and the next column has the usual spreadsheet formula =A1*A2/100 and so on.

The GoogleFinance function has many options, for example historic prices

Very flexible, very easy to use and free!

    Simples!

I thought google stopped providing that service?

If not then they will probably stop it soon no?

How does the Canadian Google finance work related time difference?

It looks exactly the same as the previous UK version, with real time prices, portfolio function, etc.

Nope, it's not been stopped and no plans to.
What makes you think it's stopped?

    Thanks, that's very useful.

Does google finance also hold fund prices that can be linked to via a google docs spreadsheet?

  • Nobody has mentioned Investors Chronicle - excellent free portfolio service, include text alerst if you want, weekly or daily emails of your portfolio(s) performance, includes equities, ITs, ETFs Funds etc

And you can select prices from the date you actually bought the investment, so it's good for what if.... scenarios.

    Thanks for all your input.

I have decided to just use my broker to update the prices of the shares i own. At least i know they will always be there whilst i own my shares.

I just have to download a bunch of csv files and i have put together a macro in excel to get the data from these files and do the formatting etc.

    works like a treat!
