This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Good morning all,
I'm up with the House Troll whose throat is still sore from coughing. Lots of tea and some breakfast needed to keep him going. I have whatever it is too, but not as badly as he has it.
Csarina, JackieO, Mr&MrsTA who all seem to have variations on the same theme, I hope you all feel better soon. I hope Hollyharvey is OK too.
I had a little more sleep last night than I had for the three or so nights before so I'd like to do some knitting today. I also need to go and talk to the doctors receptionists who ordered the wrong sized dressings for my leg before Christmas. I didn't have the strength to argue with them last week. Today I will have to or I'll be tying a tea towel round my leg from about Sunday.
I'm not sure what I'll be cooking today. Something easy for the HT to eat. Toasties seem to be the order of the day and I keep putting ready salted crisps on the plate as salt being a natural antiseptic will help his throat together with the cold and flu tablets, throat spray etc.
Take care all of you.0 -
Morning, thanks Cranky, for starting us off.
Hope House Troll picks up, as you say, so many people seem to be suffering.
I've been awake since 3am, up since 5.15. Strong coffee will keep me going today.
Yesterday we weren't out at all. We did some tidying, and I put a load of washing in, which is nearly dry now on the landing.
We've got a sad day ahead, we are going to the funeral of an old friend who died the week before Christmas. We had been friends for nearly forty years, it's hard to believe there'll be no more gossips over a bottle of wine. There was so much we shared over the years, good times, bad times. There are plenty of memories to look back on anyway.
I hope the poorly people improve, and thoughts to Dumpling and her Becky.
Have as good a day as you can folks.0 -
Morning folks and thanks CRANKY for starting off. I hope the House Troll soon improves. This constant coughing wears you out. As you say it isn't just one bug doing the rounds, everyone has different symptoms with no magic cure sadly!
We had a lovely afternoon at DD's yesterday, as usual lunch was running late but we finally sat down to eat around 3.00. The washing up finally got finished about 6.30 and then DD started laying the buffet for the party extending into the evening! Just a few friends and neighbours but, by then, Mr TA and I felt ready for home and I was in bed by 8.30!
A lazy day for us today. We have Mr TA's scan result tomorrow and have tried not to worry about it over Christmas but not easy.
I'm glad Frank and Margaret managed to reach their big day JACKIE. DUMPLING just (HUGS) for coping so well over Christmas.
((HUGS)) to all else in need and hope everyone managed to enjoy Christmas. HOLLY are you ok? Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Hello everyone, greetings from Malaysia!
Glad you all seem to have survived Christmas, sorry so many of you are under the weather/poorly/worried.
We are leaving Langkawi today for Penang, just relaxing by the pool until our car arrives. Will be sorry to leave here, the hotel is amazing and the beach is indeed as it looks in the photos. It's over 30 degrees today and quite humid, I see some of you have snow, something the Malaysians don't understand!
Keep well, I'm enjoying keeping up with you all. Take care.0 -

Hester It's always best to choose your own yarn isn't it? If you leave it to someone else they always buy the wrong one and it completely ruins your day – and the next few days too, as you then have to order the correct type and wait for it to arriveI trust no-one with my crochet things, lol. Aaaah Malaysia! I was wracking my brain trying to remember where you were camelot! I'm glad you're having a good time x
I had that awful cold three or four weeks ago, the cough still hasn't completely gone, I have the occasional coughing fit which seems to come from nowhere and takes me by surprise. I cough til I can't catch my breath, then it stops and a few hours later it'll happen again. Nothing seems to work for it, I think you just have to ride it out.
We had quite heavy rain late afternoon yesterday, it lasted into the evening. The garden was puddly and the chicken run was a horrible muddy mess. So I was surprised to wake up this morning and see snow! A decent layer of snow makes my dayI hope it snows a bit more, I like to see it falling.
We have lots of leftovers from Christmas day so I'm going to do a microwaved roast today. Not as good as a fresh one but it'll be ready in just a few minutes and I'm sure it'll be fine once it's covered in gravyMust slice and freeze the turkey and gammon today. The first of two washes is in the machine, I want it all done early so I can have another lazy day

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Cranky, hugs and get well wishes to all those in need.
Exactly Tru, I knew what I wanted, it would take too long to explain it to someone else, CHS don't buy each other presents, this year we called our night in the hotel our gift to eat h other.
We have dgs staying for a couple of days, he's still asleep currently.
Have a good day everyone.

That kitchen is stunning!
I had eight of us round the table for dinner. By the time I had cooked beef, a four bird roast, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and parsnips, mange tout, red cabbage with apple and onion, DD's leek and cheese bake and made home made rolls and broccoli and Stilton soup as a starter, I was shattered. It was only as we were eating I realised I had forgotten to cook the sprouts
Two dds, husband and BF left yesterday lunchtime and Youngest is with me for the rest of the week. I made a huge beef, mushroom and ale pie and we had that for lunch for four of us but I still have half left so will eat some today and freeze a couple of portions.
Once I hear youngest moving round I will make us breakfast, load the washing machine, empty and reload the dishwasher and have a nice long shower and shampoo in peace. Youngest dd upset that the gorgeous table runner she bought had stains on it, so I steeped it in a special solution and hand washed it gently last night then hung it outside to drip on the line. I felt extravagant buying concentrated cleaning solutions but they are food safe, can be made to any strength and have worked well in sorting out awful stains so far.
Cranky
I am so sorry the wrong dressings were ordered and fingers crossed that you get it sorted and your leg heals more quickly now. Have you tried honey on toast for a sore throat?
Hester
The wedding looks lovely and I hope that you enjoyed it.
Hugs to all"This site is addictive!"
