Just literally saw this thread as a load of fireworks started going off in someones garden in the road, and promptly woke our 18 month old...Thanks then.

I know it sounds like bah humbug but I really wish they would ban fireworks for the public, I know it will never happen as bigger and better fireworks get even cheaper.

They are a nuisance with noise and A&E get such an increase in admissions plus in my job ( firefighter ) its a nightmare with things being set light to with them thanks to the local scroats......RANT OVER... and breath!

odear .. temptation.. I once spent around £600 on fireworks for me and a friends house party (we were 18, fireworks before the alcohol was allowed out) since then, I vowed to spend no more than £25 a year, especially as all my favourite fireworks have been banned
embarrassed to say I used to work for barclays..sorry
  • Steer clear of Lidl fireworks!
I have never had any trouble with any fireworks but last year bought a selection box from Lidl and some extra rockets.
The Catherine wheel exploded in one go within seconds of lighting the touch paper, scaring my kids half to death and leaving me with a permanent hearing loss which also affects my balance. A couple of the roman candle type failed too, one showering us with burning sparks. Finally a rocket went up, failed and then came straight down again exploding when it hit the ground just feet from us.
After mentioning it at work I heard other horror stories about their fireworks.
Everybody I knew who had bought them had at least 2 failures.
I wrote a letter but they didn't give a damn and insisted they were safe.
I don't think I will be buying any at all this year!

    I agree,
I'm in total support of organised only events for which a permit must be obtained to ensure health and safety. Not only for those in attendance, but also for those in the residing area.

However if you must hold a private display, whilst the Firework Safety Code advises you to keep your pets indoors, please have consideration for your neighbours pets too.
It doesn't take a lot of effort to inform neighbours of your event, and they will be ever so thankful for your consideration :A

aren't all the Great Hunt threads supposed to be started by Martin, in that they are usually slightly more 'official'

My employers Countrywide ( who, I hear you say ? ;) ) are selling a great range of quality fireworks at reasonable prices with lots of BOGOF's ! The items aren't available on their website but check out the store locator here. I'll try and get some prices listed.

Ps. Come say hello if you're passing the Nuneaton store !

yes i agree completely. if you stood in the middle of the street with a stereo on full blast then the police would come and have a quiet word and tell you to stop. Yet you can go to a shop and spend all night letting off rocekts and not a word is said.

i remember last year we got into an argument with some neighbours about this. 11pm and they were continually letting off rockets, which keeps the whole street awake. They didnt see the problem, i did. 5 minutes of heated discussions later and i called the police. the police came and said i shouldn't bother my neighbours and they were assured the diplay would be finished soon. 2 hours later and it was still going on. The police did nothing.

should be a crime to do it on any night other than nov 5th. merely an acceptable form of ant-social behaviour.
