Paradise Park Tenerife, beware!

Very disappointed once again, paying Thomsons £148 for an upgrade to a pool view room only to be put in a room overlooking the main road and a building site. The bathroom had a smell of "drains"! Our friends from Holland were treated in the same way, given a room looking up the hill at the other side.

We had booked 12 months before arrival, our friends had emailed the hotel reminding them about the room they had booked. When they challenged "Amigos" they said that they got so many emails they could not read them all!

The Thomson's rep was supposed to be there from 6pm on most days, he wasn't there once at 6pm. He obviously chose a visiting time to avoid his customers.

We eventually got the room we had paid for and this year it was free from ants thank goodness. The only unwelcome visitors this year were small moths in the bathroom and a cockroach which was attempting to get into the lift outside the dinning room.

The salads were good as in previous years but there was a noticeable drop in the quality of the large prawns, they were "Mushy" and the cooked meats varied in toughness. Hot foods were often cold but the plates were hotter than previously.

WiFi was very good, but you could feel the springs in the mattresses when you laid down.

Lets hope that when the new manager comes next year he can sort out the over booking of the better rooms. Two lots of friends of ours no longer book this hotel, one of them was going to book "Best Tenerife" instead. Ironically they were placed in this hotel last year when Paradice Park was over booked.

Would a solicitor take on a "no win no fee claim"?

You don't need a solicitor for this: it is a small amount and a straightforward matter of not getting what you paid for: however, you stayed there and were eventually moved so any compensation a court might order would be small change.

Why on earth do you and your friends keep going back if it's this bad every time?

Tenerife has a large selection of Hotels - choose another one, simple !!

  • We go to this hotel every year and have the exact opposite experience. Judging by the photo, the room is on the same side as all the pool view rooms, just further along (I have seen other photos of the OP’s complaint on Tripadvisor). The hotel is always willing to move you if you are not happy, which is what they did with us one year when we had noisy neighbours.

So if you looked down from your room, towards the ground, could you see the pool.
This photo shows the view of the horizon.
    Perhaps that’s your lot.
Can’t believe your complaining about mushy prawns.
    Try to be more positive!

You might find a NWNF solicitor to take on your case but it would hardly be worth it.

You paid £148 for a pool view room. You don’t feel you got the room you paid for but you did eventually move room. So in a legal sense you might be able to argue you are due back a portion of the upgrade fee for the time spent in the first room. But for a portion of £148, less a solicitors fee, it really won’t be worth it.

Bugs in the Canaries is no big deal and it’s unreasonable to expect not to see any for the duration of your hotel stay.

    Food comments are subjective.

You could write to TUI stating the room problem and lack of rep to help sort it. You could ask for a refund of the upgrade fee, or a portion of it. They may offer a goodwill gesture. Then again they may not.
