    Morning all :)
Rotten night's sleep again due to coughing
And DD2 is coming over with the children as her OH is working today - she is struggling to cope atm, with GD being demanding and constantly ill and a new baby, so she needs the support, but I am not great either :( Anyway, onwards as they say....
It is bitterly cold, though we had only heavy rain and not snow as did much of the surrounding area.

    Anyway, today's small things:
Had a lurking half a banana and the last few HG dried raspberries with breakfast porridge :)
Walked dog, free exercise and the cold wind woke me up a bit
Wrapped an ebay parcel, and OH has gone into town in the car to post it. Also gave him a small shopping list (4 items). However, he has just rung to tell me that Sainsburys have reduced their expensive fresh turkeys to £9, and that he is going to buy one and cut it up into portions for the freezer (he is good at that sort of stuff). I insisted ONLY one
Will put on a load of washing Not done
Clean and tidy kitchen, won't manage much else with my brother, DD and kids here
Go through fridge etc to see what needs using or freezing Done, the control / temp dial on my fridge moves really easily, and someone had nudged it so that it was on a really high number - this meant that some things in the veg drawers at the bottom had frozen :( Worst affected were a bunch of celery and 2 carrots, which were frozen solid  I could see that it would defrost to a lot of slime, so chopped it up and made celery soup. Chucked in the carrots. The only thing I may have to throw out is a half pack of radishes - I couldn't think what to do with frozen radishes :rotfl: I will see what they are like when they defrost, but they may well be headed for the compost heap :(
Plenty of food / leftovers for everyone's lunch, I am sure :)There was.
Might make turkey soup :)Not done
There is also cold turkey - if OH does buy and cut up the reduced one he rang about, I suspect it will reside in the freezer for a few months after the current turkey fest :rotfl:He did buy it, and it is now in the freezer as thighs, drumsticks, wings and a large boneless crown. Lots of meals there. The carcase is in the SC for yet more stock :)
Cold turkey, jacket potatoes and salad for dinner. Finished off Christmas pudding for afters :)
Took decorations off Christmas tree, which was looking a bit unhappy, and put it back outside and gave it a couple of cans of water (it is a living one from previous years, in a pot). A bit sad taking it down so soon, but not as sad as a dying tree! It will probably perk up now it is outside again.
And I STILL need to mend OH's trousers STILL not done :o

  • Morning all!

After another terrible night's sleep in my mother in law's house (just so hot I couldn't sleep and kept coughing), we had a quiet boxing day. OH and I stopped off at the seaside on the way home and had a very short walk along the prom and a cup of coffee and a sarnie at a caf!. We then drove the long way home around the coast.

It felt very good to get out of the house and into the air. I'm not a person to be cooped up indoors for long! The cool air in our house soothed my chest a lot and I had a pretty decent sleep last night. I am back in work for 9.5 hours today though and I feel pretty ropey for it already. There were 300 EMAILS waiting for me

    Today's mse bits:
    • B/L/D from stores
    • Charge phone in work
    • Crochet if I feel up to it. Want to finish the December part of my blanket (well, one half of December).
    • Early night
    • Start scribbling down meal plan for the next week
    • No alcohol
    Have a good one all

    Afternoon all!

I hit the Sainsbugs sale today but only bought reduced stuff I had my eye on, namely four plates and some matching cereal bowls plus a smaller Pyrex dish than the one I currently own. I also bought crackers for next year at £1.20 for 6 and a generic roll of starry wrapping paper suitable for birthdays for 50p.

I also popped into a charity shop and got two cardigans (one John Lewis and one M&S) and a nice black dress to wear NYE. Just mascara and eyeliner to buy now and that's the last of my spending of gifted money, the rest can be paid off of my credit card.

I've had one sale today which is reassuring that everything isn't going to dry up completely post Christmas. I spent a long while last night thinking/discussing my next moves and I think I'm going to bite the bullet and register as a business seller on EBay where I can also sell in packs of 3/6 (I'd need another bar code to do this on Amazon.) I'm also going to trial getting an agent for one sales area to gauge how much stock I would need to hold if I did the same for all regions. Come the New Year I also need to start driving traffic to the website so I will plan a send out some samples/press releases.

I received the Chrissie Hynde autobiography as a gift and the cover pic is EXACTLY how I would like my hair cut so I might venture to a hairdresser with it in hand and hope my own attempts at hairdressing won't thwart it too much!

1LuckyLady, I definitely bought too much cheese and we haven't touched it, I will portion and freeze it, another lesson learned!

    Hi all,
Useful day today. Only just sat down.
*Rubber turkey duties. All leftover turkey now turned into meals as follows: 2 portions turkey & mushroom supreme (will eat tonight on jacket potatoes), 7 portions turkey chilli (2 left out for tomorrow night, 5 frozen), 2 large portions turkey curry, 8 portions turkey soup & 4 portions sliced turkey breast in leftover gravy. In addition, it did 2 dinners on Christmas Day, 2 on Boxing Day & 3 lots of sandwiches. At £22 for the turkey, I make that 32 servings at 68p each plus 2 containers of fresh turkey stock. Oh, & I froze some odds & sods of turkey for mr f's next Epuc Man Stew too........as apparently he may 'need' to make one soon :-/
*mr f popped to Aldi for milk & onions & found their huge pork joints reduced to half price, so he bought one of those (over 3kg) for a bit over £4. Froze it. Lots of meals there.
*Still eating up leftovers for lunches etc.
*Knit big jumper. My Christmas pressie yarn is so lovely, I want to wear this jumper as soon as I can.
*Keep eye on weather forecast. Trip to North Yorkshire planned for tomorrow but if weather is wet or awful, it will be 164 mile's worth of wasted diesel. If we do go, will be taking a picnic lunch as the food where we are going is very expensive.
*Trifle tonight. Using an 'extra' layer of sponge I baked & froze when I last made a sponge cake & some of our homegrown stewed blackberries instead of buying a tin of fruit.......glassful of festive dessert wine saved for the alcohol content so another helpful l/o.
Ok, time to fight cat for a space by the fire.
Have a nice peaceful night all,
    F xx

  • We spent today getting ready for our Christmas meal tomorrow. We decided many years ago to not have it on Christmas Day. We have made a cheese cake, carrot and swede mash, braised red cabbage, stuffing balls, apple sauce, cranberry sauce, stock for the gravy with the giblets.
I also did a small shop mainly for vegetables for tomorrow, I could of bought them on my last shop on Friday but we would have had trouble finding some where to store them also this way they are fresher.

I have enjoyed having time to prepare for tomorrow without any stresses, OH helped it was enjoyable working together. I loved spending a couple of hours with dd chatting and building a different Lego set.

    Ziggy thanks for the PM

One third of my piece of Stilton and crackers for dinner tonight, the other two thirds are now in the freezer, I'm think a quiche might be nice for one of the chunks. I no longer own a quiche dish though there always seems to be one in every charity shop so I will keep an eye out!
