Thinking about all those who are having runs of bad luck and PinkUnicorn8 Christmas of woe last year, does anyone have any memories of what was at the time, a really testing / awful / not planned Christmas but actually looking back you can smile and laugh, or it's become a fond memory?
My mum always tells me of the first year her and my dad bought the house I grew up in. They were so tight financially on being able to afford things that my mum bought the two smallest, cheapest individual xmas puddings she could find for her any my dad. She still remembers them bobbing about in the pan. I'm sure she's had many a Christmas pudding since that have been far more luxurious but I rather like the fact the most memorable one was those two little puddings even though they'd have probably loved something more substantial at the time.
I remember crying rather dramatically one 23rd Dec in M&S car park because there were no turkeys left in store and they couldn't say if any more would be delivered and me wailing down the phone to my OH that Christmas was ruined (his suggestion of 'oh well we'll just have something else' didn't help). Of course there were more deliveries the next day and of course we could have made do with something else but it was the stress of the season - I do :rotfl: looking back on it now.
He also came home one year to find me two sheets to the wind on mulled wine laying dramatically on the sofa. We were supposed to be moving before xmas so no decs up, and the house we were supposed to have moved into had fallen through. I dramatically announced if I couldn't put up decorations I was going to get into the festive spirit another way. :rotfl::rotfl:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Evening everyone,
MANDCO I’m glad the group helped, it’s hard when you have no experience of autism to know what’s best for them, even though the gut reaction is to cuddle and soothe, it’s not what Thumper wants. Yes Thumper is 4 at the end of this month!! And cheeky with it lol
NIC glad the pressure is off now for Christmas presents
PRINCESSKITTY Thankyou, I hope you have some quality time with your brother
KERRIGT Ha the worst/most testing/awful Christmas was 2011, It was Christmas Eve the house was full on ready for Christmas, I was sat down with the kids watching Christmas films, when 4pm my then husband of 24years (together 30 years) came home and announced he had been having an affair and had been caught by the woman’s husband ( who was his friend) all hell let loose, I physically pushed him out the front door, needless to say it was a Christmas spent in tears and snotThe kids tried their best at making it Christmassy, I was so scared I would never enjoy Christmas ever again. BUT the following year after following this thread Christmas Eve came around and the kids renamed it Our Anniversary of Freedom day
we had the best Christmas then and ever since, we can laugh about it now :rotfl:

FREESPIRIT I remember those early days, you’ve come such a long way with your lovely, thoughtful family.
Lovely to be reading all the Christmas chatter. I went to The Range today and had a brief potter round the Christmas section (most of the first floor:j) but I need to go back and have a proper look with a break for hot chocolate in the middle. It's the most wonderful timeof the year :0 -
Free I remember those times too. I have had my fair share of drama and distress over the years and it has always been my friends on here to pick me up whether in private messages, public or the other sites we chat on. There is always someone with wise words and a different view to calm the situation.
My worse Christmas, so many to choose from but so is life0 -

Anyone else looking forward to Christmas 24 starting on Saturday? :T
The Hallmark channel starts the following Saturday.
These cheesy films are my go to thing to watch when I'm feeling down or stressed. As much as I love a good thriller on Netflix etc, sometimes I go to bed and can't get the storyline out my head. The cheesy Christmas films always have a good feeling about them.
Even my 13 year old rolls her eyes at me, then before she knows it she has sat and watched the whole thing with me lol.
I've had a few horrible Christmas's too. but it just makes me appreciate every Christmas now. Especially when my kids are still young. I know in a few years they won't be interested at all. That will be a sad day.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -
Lol not at all Keri. It is just nice that although this is a Christmas thread there is chatter all year and non Christmas. I think that is what makes this such a pleasant community0

DD stash is doing ok but need to start working on DS. He is 16 today so I can now concentrate on Christmas instead of his birthday.
Nic2075- I cannot wait for Christmas 24 to start and hallmark channel. Hallmark Christmas movies on Yo*yube are keeping me entertained at the moment whilst Im off my feet.
GIYD- I totally agree that this thread has cheered me up endless times xx
Peppapig-Your Cjristmas trip to the range with a hot chocolate sounds like a good plan to me! Wouldn't it be nice if we could all join you xx
Free- Wow sounds like it must of been a really bad Christmas initially but ended up being a blessing to you all. What a fab family you have and are stronger together xx
KerriGT- I can remember many a meltdown, the one I remember the most is when I hunted high and low for toy story figures for my son. He was toy story mad and had been hysterical for these toys. I ended up getting my husband to travel miles away to get the figures after weeks of frantic phone calls to various shops. On Christmas day my DS opened them and was happy with them but found his cheap hot wheels cars, and car mat much more thrilling. He never played with the £60 figures. My husband was gobsmacked and I was in tears. Spent the rest of the day trying to get my DS to play with the stupid, overpriced toy story figures just so I could justify the horrendous few weeks we had trying to get them:rotfl: needles to say he didn't and so the obsession with Hot wheels was born and toy story forgotten0 -

:rotfl::rotfl: Oh heck! The things that we do eh. That reminds me of one year, we were prob about 10 / 11, my cousin who is 6mths younger than me was running around the place saying whether he was going to play on X computer game first, or his new Game Boy (we were staying at my cousins for C'mas)...this was all very well until his older sister pointed out it wasn't actually Christmas yet and he didn't know he would be getting either item - that stopped him in his tracks  (thankfully he got both and meltdown was avoided).
I believe that was also the Christmas I got Ghost on VHS. My (somewhat straight laced) Aunty walked in while the 4 of us kids were watching it...right at the pottery scene :rotfl:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Tesco choc oranges back to £2 now it seems, managed to pick up a couple of b'day bits for next year in the Sainsbury's toy sale but lots of people out Christmas shopping in it (I tried not to get caught up in the hype and excitement which I find you then get home thinking 'what on earth did I just buy....as frequently happens in the b00ts Sale).Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
