    Morning Ladies ,
Well its been up and down here , my Aunt died Nov 6th she had cancer and although i hadn't seen her for years it did hit harder than i expected it to , her funeral is today but I'm not going as Dd wouldn't handle it well and ive no one to look after her while i made the 250 mile round trip .
Saturday coming home from work my brakes failed  i managed to get home [very slowly] and £170 later its all fixed .I will be glad when this year is over its been horrendous from Dd's accident in January right up to now .

I am having a few days at my parents on the 26th leaving hubby and Dd at home while i go shopping in Newcastle , it must be 30+ years since i was there last ! Anyone recommend a pub for lunch ? My mum always just goes to Gregg's but i fancy something different if i can persuade her .

Christmas wise we are all done i may write the cards today . Anyone after Alexa Screwfix have them reduced from the 19th .

  • Peppa yes we’re really looking forward to it. Although it would have been nice to see Stick Man as Wiggle loves it!

Mrs Ryan I ordered from Waitrose last year, the turkey was fine but they substituted my pigs in blankets and gammon which was annoying as I’d ordered free range and the alternatives weren’t. I have ordered with them again this year though so fingers crossed it’s all ok!

GIYD thanks for the link to the JL advert, I don’t see many adverts these days and I love it! I wondered where they were going with it but what a great ending! Definitely one of their better ones.

GTQ bless your friends grandson, that’s hilarious! That reminds me of a wedding I went to, it was all quiet in the church and the vicar said ‘I now pronounce you man and wife’ and a child somewhere said really loudly ‘UH-OH’! It was just brilliant timing. :rotfl:

CHRISSYG I’m so sorry to hear about your aunt, when you have memories of family it always does hit hard. Your brakes failing must have been super scary! I’m always worried about that happening. You have had a time of it, I noticed you hadn’t been on here for a little while. It’s nice you’ve got a trip to Newcastle to look forward to.

As Wiggle is obsessed with trains at the moment we’ve booked him onto the ‘Santa Express’ which is being run by a local community railway, we’re really looking forward to it as it’ll be a train ride and meeting Father Christmas in one which we’re hoping he’ll love.

I’m feeling a little anxious here at the moment as my mum had a scan and there’s something they can’t identify on her lung so she’s got to go and have a CT scan next week. Most of the time I’m ok and just keep thinking we don’t know anything yet, it could be something and nothing. But then I keep having moments of panic where I fear the worst. The scan is on Tuesday, I just hope it doesn’t take too long to find out. :(

Chrissy- so sorry to hear the news, even though its expected its still hard to come to terms with. Look after yourself and enjoy Newcastle x.

PK- its hard not to worry when things like this happen, feeling as you do is totally understandable. I hope she gets some answers soon x.

GYD- Im in two minds about the JL advert. On the one hand I like the sentiment behind the ad but on the other I detest Elton John. DH has met him on several occasions and he says he is very rude and a diva with everyone around him. I like his music but the man himself has coloured my view of the ad. Its a 'No' from me.

GTQ- its moments like that that stay in our minds rather than the event itself You gotta love kids timing!

Not a fan of the JL advert really. Doesn't stand out as much as some they have done. Not seen one yet that has really captured my attention. Even the kevin the carrot ones don't have quite the same appeal this time around.

Had a bit of a nightmare on Tuesday. Came to wrap some presents and realised that some shoes I ordered had come to me in the wrong size. Partially my own fault for not checking when they arrived instead of just putting them in the gift cupboard however my paperwork clearly shows I ordered the right size and they were picked wrong . Was fuming and am technically out of my returns period(by a matter of days) but returned them anyway.

Have had to re-order from somewhere else (more expensive) as where I had them from no longer have them on the website. No idea if I will get any of my money back for them so lesson learnt now to check contents of parcels on arrival

this year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk
  • murie it is funny is it not, how people can differ in others views. I would not think one way or another about Elton John although will say he is a very talented man but when my daughter was much younger and going through a tough time he wrote her a beautiful letter and sent her photos/autograph etc. He took time out for her. Although this is the daughter who when I spoke to her earlier today about it, she laughed and said oh John Lewis? It looked more like he was sending subliminal message through the advert for his tour next year. Guess she is not a fan either!

GYD- I have to admit that that was exactly my initial thought about the ad! Obviously not so subliminal after all after all.

I haven't even seen the ad and thought that :rotfl: Given JL haven't exactly had a stellar year profits wise, their marketing budget clearly hasn't been affected.
Not really a fan of Elton myself, appreciate he's amazingly talented and has had a career most can only dream of, it's just his music isn't my cup of tea.
Sure, like most he can be lovely or a nightmare - I disctinctly remember seeing Bob Geldof at Dublin airport and felt very sorry for the person on the other end of the phone to his rantings. Miserable so and so.

GTQ that is trusty hilarious, out of the mouths of babes.

Well OH has chosen some trainers for Xmas...which are obviously a total nightmare to find in his size, and I'm worrried that he won't like them as much as he thinks (I've bought him ones in that style before and he wasn't keen after a bit) Was over in the US earlier this week and had hoped to get them there but couldn't find them.

Managed to cross off another gift today, got a firends little boy some sleep suits from TU with their double up. They're really sweet with little nutcracker style soldiers on, and I made sure they all had poppers down the front for ease of getting him in / out of them (some others I liked didn't and that had been mentioned in the reviews).

Need to get some bulbs asap too as want to plant up a pot my DM has but is currently empty, I hope I haven't left it too late to plant them? Any gardners amongst us?

Still no cards written, did think of taking them on the flight with me but with the turbulence on the way out they'd have been illegible

KERRI my DD has bought her OH some particular trainers for Christmas that were oos everywhere and she ended up buying them online from Germany.

GYD/MURIE I’ll have to have a look at the ad now to see what you’re talking about. I like EJ - I think he just reminds me of my teenage years.

    CHRISSEY sorry for your loss.

PRINCESSKITTY it’s understandable that you’re worried but you’re doing the right thing in trying not to dwell on it. It won’t impact the outcome and if everything is ok (which I hope it is) you’ll have wasted all that energy worrying. Easier said than done though - I don’t take my own advice.

I’ve decided I’m having big faux pointsettia heads in my main Christmas tree in the front room, plus robins, pine cones and berries and I’ll have a similar garland on the windowsill with snowflake window clings and warm white lights. The second tree in the back room will have the coloured lights and as many coloured baubles and decorations as I can get on it, the windowsill garlands will be the same and I’ll have coloured baubles hanging all around. :D
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

Peppa I am at that stage of looking aboard too, I'm just concerned they may not fit as some sites seem to offer them in widths, others not, some say size up, others don't etc etc. Some say they are unisex, some say they are gender specific which can affect the fit too. Talk about a royal PITA. There is one site that I would buy from where they are OOS and I'm concerned they may not get any more in.
