talktalk grrrrrrrrrrr

So here's the problem, we live 250m down a lane with a phone/broadband served by some old cables which need replacing (the BT man's words) because when its windy and rainy the internet drops out. The service duct at the end of the road also fills with water during heavy downpours also causing it to stop working.

We are with talktalk, have been for years, when we contact them, usually by chat messenger to report it they tell us that there is no fault on the line - you can see they were employed for their sharp skills.....(and we don't have mobile coverage here).......all we want is to have the line replaced, preferrably with fibre from the box at the end of the road......all we get from them is the line won't support it and "we have fantastic broadband deals"......to which i reply whats the point when what you have provided doesn't work....we have even offered to to pay for the installation....but all i get is a brickwall every time.

Has anyone got any suggestions what else to do to get the line replaced or who to speak to regarding putting a fibre cable to the house?

all you can do is complain to TalkTalk as they will have to deal with BT OpenReach who are ultimately responsible for the lines. Talktalk themselves won't do anything and they getting Openreach to do something is often described as akin to getting blood out of a stone.

Typically when a line check is run its technically correct that there is no fault - just means they're not aware of a fault, not that one doesn't actually exist.

There's no such thing as a "fibre cable" because that comes down the same phonelines as the existing broadband so there is nothing to replace. The work needs to be done at the exchange level which is again a BT/Openreach thing. Does your exchange show having it been upgraded?

  • Ok, thanks for that and thanks for straightening me out with the terminology.

It says that we maybe eligible, it also provides a list of suppliers inc. talktalk, but having been on google i see that they don't offer FTTP......which explains why when i spoke to them they were so keen to offer the fantastic broadband deal
  • FTTP? Not many have that. Suppose you could move to an area that has it.
