This is an entirely unregulated industry which is scamming the public with inflated claims for minor breaches of contracts for alleged parking offences.
Parking Eye, Smart and a smaller company have already been named and shamed, as has Gladstones Solicitors, and BW Legal, (who take hundreds of these cases to court, and nearly always lose), who have also been reported to the regulatory authority.
The problem has become so rampant that MPs have agreed to enact a Bill to regulate these scammers. Watch the video of the Second Reading in the HofC recently.

Hi so I'm back again. Apologies.
I received a letter from a debt recovery agency saying they were collecting on behalf on UKCPS. I ignored these letters as I had already send my original letter to UKCPS (not admitting I was the driver but declaring inadequate signage) it was the letter from the Newbies thread.
Today I have received a letter again from UKCPS as a letter of claim to reply within 30 days. I've read the stickies, however, I am unsure which letter I need to reply with. I have taken photos of the car park this evening ... which also show the inadequate signage. If someone could point me in the right direction I would be ever so grateful as the husband is getting panicky I will end up with a CCJ hindering our opportunity to get a mortgage in 2 years.
Many Thanks0 -
Firstly, you have no risk of getting a CCJ.
To Get a CCJ, first there has to be a court case.
Then you have to lose that court case.
Then you have to fail to pay whatever the court orders within a month.
So you are entirely in control of whether or not you get a CCJ.
In post #2 of the NEWBIES FAQ sticky thread there are a couple of sample Letter of Claim replies that you might want to use as a response.0 -
No risk of a CCJ, and it would be likely you'd pay less than £200 if you lost. And we see wins in 99% of cases here, when posters stick around and follow all court stages properly.
That's why everyone here defends these scams. There is no risk, nothing to lose. See the second post of the NEWBIES thread.
You are in no danger of it affecting a mortgage, as long as you don't ignore court papers.
