Unfortunately the volumes at xmas mean some slippage of scanning performance across the network.
My last 3 delivered Tracked items have had only originating MC scans and delivery scan with no on route tracking (yes,Im sad enough to check)

It looks like my item was never scanned at all, as far as RM can see the number has not been used although I purchased the label. This is what worries me, my mail centre don't scan items on acceptance, they just stamp my manifest and signed for gets scanned later at the sorting office, sometimes that evening or sometimes the next day.

I did get in the habit of saving my signed for and only dropping them off at the Post office as they scan them in front of me and give me a proper receipt to say it has been accepted into the system, but my local PO is still unhappy about taking business mail so I have to rely on the mail centre.

Oh well, fingers crossed it arrives regardless of any update to track and trace.

  • I hope that it arrives but the cynical side of me says that even if it does arrive but the tracking doesn't update then the buyer will claim INR.

I've had people claiming that items haven't turned up despite it being tracked and signed for. I despair of the human race sometimes.

I was on the other end of that recently, Item showed delivered but I never got it, Not a thing I could do about it, lost ebay case, was only a couple of quid so not that bothered, still annoying though

I know I am not always clear but my buyer was a pleasant one and had sent item 2 days earlier than my listing stated as he was eager to have it for Christmas, and I didn't want to disappoint him. I am also aware that unless it did eventually show up as delivered I was at risk of an INR.

Good news is that buyer confirmed delivery yesterday and this morning(or probably last night) the track and trace has been changed to show delivery.

Buyer is very happy to have his item for Christmas, so all is well.

As I said,RM caught up yesterday. Not perfect but there is a genuine desire to clear parcels for xmas across the network.

Unfortunately (from experience) the splitting of the network to auxiliary PSCs IME are responsible for most delayed SD items.

These outhouses/parcel sort centres aka PSC are primarily for packet sort.
However a tricky December means these PSCs have been tasked with Tracked and bag opening on top of their planned products.
Coupled with capacity issues in the network meaning they are often used as on route storage.
Bag opening in particular can cause real issues(think the bags of mail you see in Post offices, collected from customers etc) as these can contain SD items and due to the nature of PSCs they dont have the same feed/distribution networks as MCs and mail can be left sitting/stranding awaiting the correct feeds
  • Hope the parcel made it Soolin.

I too have been watching the royal mail website for the last week or so - luckily my signed for tracked but unfortunately my buyer was out so it went back to the sorting office. It was finally redelivered Friday but I think I got a late mark despite posting same day.
