02 massive bill and overpriced calls - could I cancel without penalty

Hi all

I am new to this site but what a site :j
The issue I have is with 02 - I have signed an 18m contract in Nov on pay monthly and its due to expire May 08.
My bills have been extortionate despite a tariff change and I am paying 20p for dialling an 08 number.
Together with this 02 havent been taking the DD from my bank account, the first time they said I asked them to freeze the acc which I didnt and the second time it happened they had no explanation. To be honest they are complete pants and I am tired of their rubbish service. I have been reading the 08 charges thread and rang up, they were a bit woolly so I have sent a complaint in by registered post today.
Any advice anyone ? Oh I forgot, I got hassled by their collections dept because they hadnt taken the money from my account - nice!
Also, the phone they gave me packed up so they told me to send it back then sent me the same one in return still broken - boo hiss - it took ages to get a phone that actually worked - their service is shocking

  • The short answer is no, you can't cancel without penalty. If your bills are high, use the phone less? And track your usage online.

if you have carphone warehouse lifline complete incurance you have the right to cancel your contract after 90 days soo if you have go ahead.
if not you may be able to settle your bill with o2 if you have been a good customer with them they may half the costs both ways (i.e. you pay half they pay the other half) but if you have no excuse (for example you got the notifing text message) then you are liable for all charges

or you could pay the rest of the months off and then cancel your contract
    but thats not worth it
might aswell pay for what you get

You could try to get out of the contract without penalty, if they did not notify you of the 08xx charges which came into effect on the 28th Sept.
If they did inform you you had 30 days from notification to cancel, which wil have passed, but still worth a try, as it seems to depend on who takes your call.

There is a long thread on the subject on this board.
