Chaingmai-Guidelines.com
Mae Wang area 1300 BHT
chaingmaifabtour.com/ trekking
1500 BHT
Both involve trekking, elephant ride, swim in waterfall and bamboo rafting
Any other enquiries, glad to help.0 -
The Majestic Grande is only for those who wish to stay in that location. Personally, I wouldn't.
The lower numbered streets(Sois) of the Sukhumwit Road, the area where the hotel is situated, come alive at night with the joys of sex tourism.
Though, to be fair, there are more opportunities for nightlife in the area, with clubs, bars etc.
It would suit a Party_Animal though.
If you want to make the most of your Bangkok trip, stick to my Centrepoint location.
That way, you can visit all of the main areas with ease.
Not to mention that for much the same price as a 28 sq. m. room in the Majestic Grande, you get a 100 sq. m. serviced apartment with a river view at the Centrepoint location.
I'm always aware that new visitors to Thailand will see things differently to the way I do. It's a matter of taste. I don't know yours, so I stay away from telling people where they should go.
There's already a lot of info of the Internet about particular destinations. I can just 'fill in the dots' once you've decided on your destination.0 -
Thanks Donnie. I know its difficult giving advice when people don't offer much info about themselves and their likes and dislikes. Our trip is booked with the exception of this hotel. Its only one night. I just want somewhere clean, near the pubs, clubs, shops and easy access to and from the airport. We'll arrive around teatime and leave around 9.30pm the following day. Sorry to hijack the thread and thanks again.0

You didn't hijack the thread. You're on-topic with the OP.
Nothing wrong with the Majestic Grande at all. Many positive reviews from people who enjoy that area.
It's just that Centrepoint Silom has the perfect mix of location, value and luxury for people who actually want to see Bangkok.0 -
I definately agree with Donnie. So many people i know who have been to thailand have slated bangkok and said they couldn't wait to get out of there, but when i asked them where they went they just said khao san road, which is about as touristy and un-thailand like that you can get, and is the equivalent of judging london by just walking down oxford street. When i went to thailand got friendly with thai students who spoke english and they were happy to show us places in bangkok that weren't just full of travellers drinkin whiskey. I highly recommended bangkok.
As for chiang mai, it didn't float my boat but i know lots of people who liked it. Although i would recommend hiring a motorcycle here and driving up the mountains into the jungle, its spectacular. I cannot speak for the other two places you want to go as have not been there, hope this helps.0 -
Donny, sorry to be a pain, checked out your hotel. The daily rate is way over our budget. Someone has just recommended the Unico Grand Silom ( formerly Tower) or I'm back to the Majestic.
Do you know the Unico?
Thanks0 -

Having been to Thailand so many times, I still love Bangkok! Maybe that's because I never stayed or spent any time on Khao San Road.0 -

It's not over budget if you were looking at the Baiyoke.
You're just looking in the wrong place. Did you take a look at the Sawadee link.
The Studio(specify the 66 sq.m.) apartment is 2600 baht, with the River View apart at 3500. (£39 & £52 respectively).
Yes, I know the Tower Inn. It's a package holiday hotel. If you want to stay in that area, for the Patpong Night Market, it will do.
You'll be MUCH more likely to see and do more in Bangkok if you stay in my recommended location.
Just riding the Express Boat on the Chao Phraya for a few baht will show you a completely different side of Krungthep... than staying in the centre of the New Town.0 -

I wouldn't necessarily avoid the Banglumphu area.
I do stay on the Phra Athit Road by the river, when I'd like the company of fellow travellers. The area is popular with the Thais. They have some interesting restaurants and places with live music on the Phra Athit Road. So plenty of opportunity to mingle with the 'locals'.
Just leave the Khaosan Road to the masses. Though when you feel like a visit to the zoo....0 -

Cheers Donnie. I didn't use the Sawadee link and it came out at a lot more than that. I'll try the link.
Thanks again0
