  • Just a follow up question guys. Has anyone here got a visa or know anything important about them? Need some help with obtaining an e visa.
  • Kuoni tours tend to be excellent.

    Also Travelsphere.

What help are you looking for lillie? All the info is on the gov website.

E-visas are relatively new but I got one for my trip last year and it was relatively easy and cheaper than the paper version. IIRC you have to upload a photo, fill out a form and pay. Indianvisaonline.gov.in looks like the place to go and looks like the site that I remember using.

When you get to India there will probably be a separate queue (there was in Kolkata) to join.

There are limitations in terms of entry point but I’d expect both Mumbai and Delhi to be on the list. It’s also a single entry visa but I suspect that that’s fine with you.

Thanks BorisThomson. I have had a look at that website and it gives some good help. I have had some bad experiences with the gov website before so I was a little sceptical about it.

Thanks for the reply Ballard. I have heard many good things about the E visa, especially the main point being that it is a LOT easier than the paper version.
I have had a very good look at the gov website and seen many good reviews about it. I have however been doing my research and have been debating getting my e visa with a private agency. I've been looking at this agency in particular - https://onlinevisaindia.co.uk/ and I have done a lot of research on it and it seems to be okay but I am still having doubts.
Do you think I should get my visa from the gov website just to be on the safe side?
Thanks again! I appreciate your help.

My experience with the official website was good and I can see no reason to use an agency which will do the same sort of job but for a fee.

Thanks a lot Bollard, I will just get it from the gov website then.
    Have a good Christmas :)

March can get unbearably hot in that neck of the woods so I’d suggest that you look at the February side of that period if possible.

Jaipur and Jodhpur (if you go that far) are both very interesting. Amber fort near Jaipur is worth a trip and Mehrangarh Fort at Jodhpur could well be the best in India.

Agra itself isn’t a great place but it does have the Taj Mahal, of course. It also has the red fort and nearby fatehpur sikri (neither of which I could go to at the time).

Delhi is easily the most polluted place I’ve been to but does have a few sights in Old Delhi.

If you have the option of going further into Rajasthan then I’d suggest Udaipur with its Beautiful lake palace.

If you travel by train then third class is far more interesting than first as you get to see how the locals travel.

E-visas are reasonably easy to get and cheaper than the paper version.

I’ve been to all these places in Oct/Nov and it was all fabulous! Everyday a different adventure, India is proper bonkers and takes a few days to get used to it, the further you go from Delhi the nicer and more relaxed it gets. Everyone is friendly and you can chat with anyone. Only thing to add is I would take an industrial quantity of Imodium, and then some spare.

My experience with the e-visa: it is not straightforward, nor is it instant. Not something to be left to the last minute. Assume that they will take about a week to process it once your application is completely right, and because of the strange way they word questions and their rules about photos it will take you two or three attempts (so about another week) to get it right. I did find that they were good about telephoning me to explain exactly what was wrong and what I had to do in order to satisfy them.

There is a helpful discussion in the Goa section of Tripadvisor, although they now seem to have fixed the problem with the payment system.
