Travelling to India - Any help??

Hi guys. I am planning to travel to Mumbai, India in June next year.
Now I obviously know a little about this city but could anyone here give me some ideas of what to do there and what places to go and see? I need help to sort of plan my time there.

Thanks for the help in advance!

You haven't told us very much.....nonetheless the following link will give you plenty to chew over...

This thread from the Trip Advisor Mumbai forum isn't bad either...

I can't really tell much more as I'm not certain about everything there. Obviously, I have an idea of some of the main attractions but I am not sure what activities there is to do there. Thanks a lot for your help though Pete! :)

Don't mean to hijack the thread but seems like a good place to pick brains on travel to India in general.

DH and I want to play safe and do an escorted tour of Golden Triangle.

I believe February/March is a good time to travel. I was planning to use Riviera as they've come recommended from friends but website suggests they're fully booked. :(

    Any suggestions?

You really need to consider the weather.

June is monsoon season and about a half metre of rain will fall - that's as much as London receives over a whole year.

Plenty of videos on youtube if you want to see the effects on the city of so much rain falling over such a short period.

I'd consider benchmarking their cost and offering against a local operator - I did that this year and opted to use Indian Panorama (see the trip advisor reviews which are largely positive).

Said Indian operator was fast in all dealings, more economic and flawless in their execution.

I've no links to them and suggest you read their Trip Advisor reviews for extensive feedback but it's something to consider as alternative to booking with the likes of Riviera, Kuoni etc.

Wish I could talk OH into going to India, she hates the thought for some reason. What makes it more annoying for me is that a friend of a friend has a house in Kerala that we could use.

March can get unbearably hot in that neck of the woods so I’d suggest that you look at the February side of that period if possible.

Jaipur and Jodhpur (if you go that far) are both very interesting. Amber fort near Jaipur is worth a trip and Mehrangarh Fort at Jodhpur could well be the best in India.

Agra itself isn’t a great place but it does have the Taj Mahal, of course. It also has the red fort and nearby fatehpur sikri (neither of which I could go to at the time).

Delhi is easily the most polluted place I’ve been to but does have a few sights in Old Delhi.

If you have the option of going further into Rajasthan then I’d suggest Udaipur with its Beautiful lake palace.

If you travel by train then third class is far more interesting than first as you get to see how the locals travel.

E-visas are reasonably easy to get and cheaper than the paper version.

No I've never been before and so an escorted tour seemed like a good option to begin with.

I'll look into the suggestions. Thank you all.

India is a country like no other. It’s generally complete mayhem and the poverty can bring tears to your eyes but it’s a wonderful country.

There is no rule on the roads, for example. For the first few days you’ll be amazed at what confronts you on the roads but you (almost) get used to it after a while.
