I'm a single mum of a 5 year old & we moved into a Housing Executive house 8 weeks ago. I had separated from my partner but we have recently started dating & want to reconcile as I am also pregnant so we want to give things a go. I got a call from the Housing Executive yesterday saying a complaint had been made that I had moved my partner into my house! This is untrue as he still lives in his own house & is paying rent there and has a tenancy agreement there. He hasn't even stayed over one night in the 8 weeks. He picks our son up a few times a week but does not live here. I'm panicing now incase they take the house of me. I want him to move in so we can try bring a proper family but I'm an introductory tenant & have only been there 8 weeks. What do I need to do? Will I be allowed to move him in as an introductory tenant! I want to do everything properly but don't want them to think he's already been living there when he hasn't. I'm so stressed out. Advice please xx

What sort of housing is it? Is is specifically for single parents? Were you allocated it on the basis of being single? What does your tenancy agreement say about partners moving in?0

It's housing executive. I was allocated it for myself and my son. I can't see anything in the tenancy agreement about moving a partner in but was wondering if I could as an introductory tenant0

Are you in Ireland? Housing executive I think is the Irish version of social housing.0 -
Yes, I'm in Northern Ireland0

Contact the HE and ask if he can move in.
What will happen to his house if he moves in with you?0 -
From memory of my introductory tenancy (which was a long time ago so things have0 changed) you have to get permission for various things during the first two years. Having someone stay over- even a relative nipping on the sofa - is one of those things. It's to make sure you're a responsible tenant, not engaging in anti social behaviour and so on. This should have been explained to you, possibly in the form of a handbook.
Presumably when they called they gave you details of who to speak to about it? Or there should be offices you can go to to see someone about it.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
How far pregnant? I could see how they would feel the need to investigate that it was not all planned, you know the 'we'll pretend to separate, I'll get good housing as a single mum and then when time enough has passed, he can move in'
Not saying that was your plan, but they don't know you, so they would need to investigate to be sure.0 -

That sounds likely to be pretty much spot on to me!0 -
There was no "plan" at all. I would never defraud anyone, it disgusts me when people do that. We genuinely broke up and want to try again for our children's sake. Does anyone know if an introductory tenant can move someone in? I want to do things properly0

It really depends on the circumstances. If you’ve been given priority because you’re a single parent and you’ve managed to reconcile with your ex within weeks of getting allocated a house it wouldn’t be unreasonable of them to expect you to move back with him freeing up your local authority Home for a genuine single parent.0
