  • Just wanted to notify people of a potential scam for film extras. I applied for an advert on Gumtree for a film called "Dead Wood" and after being selected they asked me to pay a deposit of £50 for the room I would stay in for the filming duration. After checking out all the info they gave me and company/studio names and locations nothing really seemed to add up. The company was Global Media Exchange. Please don't send any money to these people, and don't be followed that because its through paypal they request the deposit that it is legitimate.

    Thanks :)

Has anyone registered with Fab Casting Agency in Maidenhead, they are fairly new but seem pretty good. They have a registration day next Saturday and have asked me to come along with the completed form, copy of passport and insurance number. They charge no joining fee but they have a professional photographer there on the day and his fee is £25 payable on the day. I know alot of people say you shouldn't pay upfront but I have also heard that alot of extras/supporting artistes pay for their own headshots.

    Any advice would be great.

    xx

I'm just curious about joining Casting Collective. It all seems very legit but I'm concerned about the fact they ask for your NI number in an online form. Can someone confirm to me please that it is a legit agency as you tend to read everywhere not to enter your NI details on any website. Anyone know or have experience with them? Thanks!

I contacted PHA agency in manchester regards child modelling. It was one of the casting agencies mentioned earlier in this thread. They got back asking for a £48 fee to go on an 'assessment day' where they would assess my child's suitability take photos blah blah blah. This smells like a scam. I thought proper modelling agencies did not charge in advance? I will be passing them up on their offer but was wondering what other people thought of this?

Avoid these guys...they only advertise jobs that are advertised on Channel 4...but ask for a subscription fee!

I Have to say. Thumbs down for PHA MODEL & CASTING AGENCY MANCHESTER . They charge you up front to register. It's not cheap. There must have been about 30+ on the day I went. They then take more off you with your first few jobs. Their fees are high too. That's if you ever get paid by them. Three months on, and no pay for me. They blame others for this. Although, on their induction they do say they will work hard to make sure you get paid. Hum. Not hard enough. I know there isn't a lot of work around. Although, friends at other agencies have had regular work. It might well be a case of too many people on their books.
Please note. I'm not one of lifes complainers. I'm just starting to feel like I have been had. :(
  • thanks for that, these things can be scams to so would only go on sites that were recommended

I wouldn't say PHA fall into this class. On reviewing things. Others have advised that this often happens with Extras work. You get paid when they get paid. So I'm some place in the middle with them at the moment. I will let you know how I get on.
  • :starmod::staradmin:starmod::staradmin:starmod::staradmin:starmod::staradmin:starmod::staradminWith PHA Manchester. :undecided Lets say you get paid £100 for a 07:30 - 18:00 day. You will get about £30 of that. The rest is taken by PHA for Admin, and web fees. Do the math on your hourly rate, after they have taken their slab of flesh. On the induction/training day. Which they charge £60 for. They make out you can earn from £80 - £300 for a days work. The jobs are very far and few between. You can't live off it, :starmod::staradmin:starmod::staradmin:starmod::staradmin:starmod::staradmin:starmod::staradmin So far I would not be telling any friends go register with them.
