Overcharged for Made to Measure Blinds

Hi,
I recently purchased 4 made to measure faux wood venetian blinds from a shop nearby.
The price I was quoted was £496 inc vat and delivery. and I paid half at the time of ordering.
The blinds have now arrived and the remaining balance is now due.
I can see the blinds are made by a company called Sunwood Blinds, so I've called two companies this morning and asked them to quote for the same 4 blinds.
Both companies have quoted me less than £250 for all 4, delivered including VAT - more than £250 less than the local shop.
Where do I stand?
Many thanks for your advice,
Mike.

Do the other companies have shop premises, or do they operate from home? You'd expect a shop, which is manned during normal hours, to charge an awful lot more than someone whose sole overhead is a mobile phone number. So, in one sense, you may not have been overcharged at all. You are paying for the convenience of popping into a shop and examining the goods.
Apart from that, I think you are probably stuck with it anyway. You struck a bargain, they obtained the goods, and now you need to pay the second instalment. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
You agreed to buy them for 496 so that's what you should do, you should have done the shopping around for the best price before committing to buying made to measure itemsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I appreciate that shop premises come with overheads, so they are bound to quote higher than web-only e-tailers I get that.
What I can't swallow, is that the difference between these two types of establishments equates to double the price!
I've been fleeced and it doesn't feel great.

Is the quality the same?
Is the choice of styles the same? (ie one of the outlets isnt providing a more limited/outdated/etc choice of styles)?0 -
It’s your own fault for not shopping around. Pay the money and consider it a lesson learnt.0

Owing the supplier the balance of the amount you agreed to pay0 -
Bit late to be shopping around after you’ve ordered and received the goods.0

You stand in the silly corner, unfortunately.
If ever I buy something without shopping around, I make sure not to look at prices afterwards as I know I'll end up regretting it! That's the price you pay for buying without checking. If you're happy with the quality of the blinds, just try to concentrate on that. If you'd been quoted £700 from other shops, would you try to pay the extra? Would you have been happy with your £500 blinds then?0 -
After considering all of your helpful comments, I contacted the original supplier and explained my position as a consumer.
Rather than return the blinds for a full refund (their suggestion), we agreed on a compromise price of a cool £300.
Merry Christmas,

You had no position other than were very lucky with a very decent company.0
