Thanks for that Stephb, just what I wanted to hear:D
My OH said I should put a flyer at the local train station, just wondered if anyone has done this or had any success with it?
OH reckoned that people travelling to London 5 days a week would be more than happy getting their ironing done for a tenner....................Jo x:A0 -
We've never done it but we live near wigan so not sure many people would be bothered, but if you live near london then it sounds like a good option. I've heard from a friend that it cost him something mad like £40 for 5 shirts to be ironed! I said he was mad!

We live in a village:rolleyes: near Wellingborough station (Northamptonshire)& hundreds of people get on a train to London at about 7am and don't return until 6pm or later, OH used to do it & said household chores was the last thing you fancied doing when it had taken you 1-1 1/2 hrs to get home!
Just thinking of all those work shirts......Jo x:A0 -
Hi my wife started a cleaning business last year, and has recently started offering an ironing service.
She has a couple of regular customers and the ironing side is slowly taking off.
If anyone is in the Ollerton/Newark/Mansfield/Southwell area of Nottinghamshire then PM me for details be that for ironing or cleaning or both
Thanks

My partner and I are thinking of getting a cleaner/ironing service in.
What are the 'normal' rates charged for an ironing service? It would only ever be work shirts/trousers/school uniforms. I iron other stuff as we need it. Do they charge per item/by weight/per hour????
If we do decide to get a cleaner, we would have to blitz our house before one could start, when my partner moved in with me, he brought the contents of a 2 bed flat with him into my 3 bed house (i have 2 kids he has 1 part time) and we seem to have stuff crammed into every conceivable hole/cupboard!!
Thanks in advance!Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!0 -

The lady who does my ironing charges £7ph and manages to do all our ironing in around 2 hrs. There are 3 of us but not everything gets ironed. Only our duvet cover(which is SK ) is ironed and all pillowcase, but no base sheets or DD's bedding as she has a throw. Each week there is approx 8 shirts, 12 tops, 4 jeans/trousers, pj's x 4 and bedding as above.
Cleaners here are between £8-£15ph.

Irchy, have you thought about offering a service at the station whereby they drop it off to you one morning actually at the station, then pick it up from you the next evening, again at the station? You could have your van parked outside or summat like that. I'd definitely do it if I thought it was feasible here.
I went 'live' last Monday, I'm on the New Deal scheme so am 'trial trading' for up to 6 months. So far I've had one customer & she seemed pleased when I delivered them back to her, but so far nothing sinceShe was previously taking shirts to a dry cleaners in town & paying £2 EACH to have them ironed. I've been out leaflet delivering in the 'posh' part of town, hit about 300 houses in 2 days & my family are going to do more for me at the weekened. No phone calls so far, but I live in hope.
My mate put rails in my little Super Carry van for me & I had it stickered up last week, the Jobcentre paid £160 for thatNow just driving round our small town is advertising in itself.
I'm feeling a little bit demoralised today, but still printing leaflets off ready for the weekend.
I'm charging £15 for a load, which I'm defining as approx 20 items of clothing. That seems to be the going rate round here. I know there's a couple of others doing it, but I'm aiming to be more professional, ie the van, we've got uniforms (printed Tshirts) & they are all basically delivering out of the back of hatchback cars. I'll just keep plugging, it's early days yet0 -

Iv been doing this for a few months now.
Anyone looking for a cleaner/ironing lady in Romford, Dagenham, Ilford area?0 -
I've just had a baby and also have a 3year old so this would be ideal for me. I'm in Kingston Upon Thames. Does anyone happen to know the going rate for a load/bag in this area? Or does anyone need an ironer in this area?0
