Went into CPW to take out contract on iPhone x. Had shopped in that store before, with good service, so my name was on their computer. Pointed out to assistant that I have gone back to my maiden name so their details of my name are now wrong but bank account etc remains the same. She processed the deal, credit check was fine, at the end there was an issue then she realised she hadn't changed my name and had to start again.


I wasn't happy as a second credit check would be done on my name. New file was made and the second credit check was fine too..then at the end a CPW code came up and I was told the sale was declined internally. I asked her to find out why, she rang head office, they told her internally declined and could give no other info.


I think its to do with two requests with different names and the same bank account. Which was in fact their error. My credit is fine.


Any thoughts? I got no apology, in fact I was met with disinterest and hardly acknowledged when I asked for an explanation. Previous store staff have been helpful but the current crew were more interested in their phone screens than their customers.


And I still didn't get the phone.....

Look on the bright side. You’ve saved yourself at least £1500.

Look on the bright side you still have a phone right, either continue to use that phone, buy the iPhone X yourself (eg a credit card preferably 1 with 0% for x number of months) or buy a cheaper alternative.

How recently did you change your name back ?.

I know people can have trouble obtaining credit / passing internal fraud checks with companies after recent name changes.

You can however still go to the network direct for the phone if the actual credit check passed
