  • Hi everyone,

I get the feeling I am late into this! However I have a friend who I know is able to make enough money after building up a web games site and recently gave up his job as he's now doing OK from it.

Can anyone offer me any advice how to get going with a site which can generate some funds if I build it up carefully? I;ve read through the entire thread but unsure of how much still applies in the present financial climate.

    Thanks in advance.

Since this thread has been pulled from the archives again, I can say that database driven sites are very good, especially if you can find a niche without too much competition. Finding a comparison that has not been done yet is good, a good example of this, but I am sure it is not the only one is a comparison site for sat navs that I have seen.. it queries affiliate feeds and shows the price for a given sat nav from different UK merchants pricing it lowest to highest. Set up costs can be expensive, but there is pricetapestry which is not too expensive and a free one too, can't remember the name at the moment. I have a comprehensive comparison site and as long as the site queries a good array of merchants then a user is more likely to buy from your site.

    Hi

Why not try OMG and get an espotting directory feed, then either use the part of the directory relevant to your content, or go lock-stock-n-barrel with the whole directory. It instantly adds 1000's of pages to your site as the drill-down through the categories is immense.

    Can you explain this?

How does pricetapestry work - where does the raw data come from? ie how does it search these other sites?

My website earns me a bit of money. I'm an ebay affiliate and I also work with webgains, amazon and commission junction. I can download the product data and store it in my own databases. From there I use a php script to show the products on the page. I have very little time for editing the website and keeping the shop up to date but I'm sure I could earn a lot more if I put more time into it.

Sorry, I am lost. What do you mean by 'product data'?
  • There are many affiliate programs and networks that I have found give you a great deal of help when trying to make money from your website in this way. I tend to promote gaming products because they will give me a %of a players spending and so I can keep earning from customers I send to them for a very long time.

I recently joined the Market-ace network and they have some good bingo brands that I now promote. there always lots going on so its easy for me to write about and they pay me a good commission every month.

    Hi Guys,

Without mentioning the name, I recently launched a new company that requires people to sign-up to participate in paid online market research surveys.

It seems you have to be established for 3 months to work with the affiliates - are there no websites out there to work direct with companies - if not, surely there must be?!

Anyone with advise on how to promote this company?

As said before, the decent survey companies are already listed on MSE so why should folk join your website just so you can then send them affiliate links to join survey companies ?

Also, be wary of some survey companies on affiliate company websites as a certain one is taking a LONG time to pay their commission to people.

PS - your other post, you said you used to be Pureprofile's UK Sales manager ...Surely you'd have some ideas
