Which new handset?

It's contract renewal time! I think they will give me what ever handset I want within reason. I have been trying to decide, but then I get confused by other reviews. My friend had a V3, looks great then you read a review and others think it's crap. Vodafone tried to fob me off with a Sony 700i. I have never had a Sony, so don't know.
Could you suggest some mobile phone review sites?
or suggest a handset that will do the following;
Download by cable from the computer MP3 and then let me use that as a ringtone? Take pictures and upload the same back to the desktop.
this is sort of the main interest, the others stuff may or may not get used.
cheers

Depends, if you want the latest phone go for a K750i, D600 (not fully released yet) or 6230i but you won't get much discounted line rental as they're too cheap. Maybe opt for the D500 as it is soon to be replaced and they might give you the best deal on this, V3 is quite old now in comparison. D500 does all your asking for, but you would need to buy a cable, eBay will be your best bet.

When you ring up, be armed with info about deals on other websites, especially www.dialaphone.co.uk, www.e2save.com and www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk.

I would go for the Nokia 6230i (HERE)

I have just taken delivery of the samsung D500 and it is a nice phone but it isn't in the league of the nokia 6230i,which i am waiting on to be delivered today or tomorrow.I had the Nokia 6230 before and was very impressed with it,thinking they wouldn't be able to improve much on that phone but they have.:)

But technically don't forget the 6230i is just catching up to the D500, the D600 will leave it for dust, only problems with D500 over 6230i is no external memory and can't have various profiles. If you want a good deal get the D500, if you want the latest phone D600 or 6230i depending on how much you love Nokia (I did too until my D500!!!)

Can't vouch for the 6230i yet has haven't received it :(
Thing that annoys me about samsung is
No choice for personal message tone
    No sms counter
    No radio
Vibrate then melody (Takes ages to ring)

Maybe it's just my love of nokia phones over the last few years as in my eyes it is them setting the standards and the others trying to catch them up...

Have to agree with you there, radio doesn't bother me too much. Photo's on the D500 are great, will be the same on the 6230i, was suprised how good the Samsung was (and the V3) think Nokia was resting on its past glory for a while and allowed others to catch up. Impressed with the K750i from what I've seen.

Have to agree there too about Nokia, but i think they got the kick up the jacksy they needed last year when their sales started to drop and they seem to have woken up again and are bringing some excellent phones out this year.
Thing about being used to a certain brand of phone is getting used to their way of texting, lol you know when you use a different brand,do a text then try and read it back.Takes me ages to correct it all, lol.

It is weird, but got used to switching regulary now, just get bored to easily I guess. The predictive function is getting similar though, just changing the word or putting a space in can be confusing!

Thanks for the tips. Let me know how your new Nokia works out later. What I want to be able to do is to download and store MP3 sounds from the computer by usb and use them for ringtones and also message alerts. I want to be able to exchange and store video clips as well. I hate paying for ringtones.

You can do that with both, pretty easy to do, you can get a cheap cable off eBay for a couple of quid
