How to connect new tv and DVD player to virgin STB

New LG flat screen tv arriving today - will need to connect to Virgin Media set top box (not tivo).

Is there an idiots guide, ideally with pictures, anyone can point me to on how to cable the VM box back up also my Panasonic recorder/dvd player? (it is a VM cable connection)

(Replacing much older tv so doubt the interfaces at the back of it are same as new tv.)

You should have a manual with the new TV. It may be short form but should show you connections. If not just ask Auntie Google.

Are you hoping to record from the VM box onto the Pana recorder?

What TV did you have connected before?

How is your DVD recorder currently connected to the VM box, does it have HDMI?

What Virgin Media box do you have - is is one that you can record onto (Virgin media set top box models include... V+, Tivo or a V6)

Do you know the model of TV you have bought - quite a few TVs have the ability to record freeview onto a memory stick simply plugged into the side of the TVwhich might mean you do not need to use your Panasonic recorder.
  • Sounds like your old Panny will be off to the Knacker's Yard, a SCART connection really won't cut it these days..

The only change is likely to be that you connect the Virgin Media box to the TV with an HDMI lead, which you might have already been supplied with, or you might have to go out and buy (just a few pounds). This replaces the scart connection that you had previously.

The Panasonic recorder connects to the Virgin Media box with scart as before.
If it's got it's own HDMI output then you could connect it to another HDMI on the TV. If it's scart only, and the new TV doesn't have scart then you might be able to route the output through the Virgin box, or find another connection to the TV.
