When I got married I changed my driving licence to my married name but had 8 years left on my passport so left it in my maiden name. There is nothing wrong with doing so - both are legal names of yours. I think it is ridiculous that the Passport Agency charge you the full cost of a new passport to change your name while it is free to do so for your driving licence.
Can someone please help. Im wanting to renew my car insurance with another company. They will obviously ask for my driving licence but it still states my maiden name on it.
If i try to send away to get a new licence in my married name they are wanting my passport number but my passport still states my maiden name as it has 6 years left on it so what do i do?

I've never been asked for my licence (or even licence number) by an insurer. If yours do ask, explain that it's in your maiden name. It may be a big deal for you, but they probably deal with this every day.
Alternatively, apply for the insurance in your maiden name.
Finally, AFAIK DVLA only want your passport number to get the photo. Again, just explain the position.
