Whats wrong with my computer?

Hope this was one-off incident, you may want to run some diagnostics test just in case, HP offers very good hardware test utility.
I occasionally run HP Vision Diagnostics for HP computers.

I have helped G6 Pavillion at my volunteer work, I don't know the detail of your spec, as far as I know, it is a decent machine, easy access to memory, hard disk etc.
Once confirmed your hardware is OK, I would suggest to install an SSD. Your G6 will run blazinly faster (than brand new hard disk computers)

Thank you for your suggestion but what is SSD?0 -
It is to replace the hard drive in your computer.
It is basically a mass storage device that is made of computer chips rather than a spinning metal disk.
One of these bad boys will VASTLY increase the performance of your computer0 -
SSD = Solid State Drive and is/can be a replacement for a HDD with a spinning disc.

You need a hard Drive Enclosure Caddy like this, (you can get a cheaper one, but this is tool free and you can swap later. i.e. existing hard disk will be used as an external hard disk as well) - KEEP all of existing data! - this will be your backup data as well

(You will install an SSD instead of a hard drive)

You will never ever want to come back to Hard disk drive

THe drive quoted in your link:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0742BC3DQ/
Is only 240GB my Hard Drive is 750GB
I presume thhe SSD is a repacement internal hard drive and would need data transferred over.0 -
An option is to use your existing HDD as an external disk (e.g. in a USB caddy) and set it as your Documents/Data storage location, and just have Windows and your programmes/applications on the SSD.
