Further reading because im tired of explaining away all these snake oil programs recently

The trouble with linking to a page that has one opinion is that it's always possible to find another page that counters it, so in the end it still comes down to personal preferences. It gets even more confusing because the page linked to above can be found in a page on the same site reviewing 36 free Registry cleaners:
https://www.lifewire.com/free-registry-cleaners-2626176Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0 -
The page that you linked to also says that registry cleaners should ONLY be used to troubleshoot specific issues and not routine maintenence
The only pages that you will find that counter that truth is ones that have been written by the creators of this rubbish
Go ahead - try to find an impartial one that endordes the use of registry cleaners0 -
Yes still use it. I tried alternatives but they were all rubbish.0

I thought about getting rid of it when they had the problem a couple of months ago but I have used Ccleaner for years and I like many of its extra features.
Perhaps I can get all these features elsewhere but having them in one place reminds me to check all the things I would forget about in normal circumstances.I see MS turned off System Restore again with the recent update and Ccleaner reminded me to switch it back on!0 -

I still use Ccleaner as well. I like the fact that all the additional features are in one place and easy to use. With W10 the feature you want could be under settings, or the old control panel, or just not available anymore so Ccleaner is great in that extent.0 -
Or just click in the Cortana/Search box (or press the windows key on your keyboard) and start typing the name of the feature you want. Select the feature from the results list or press enter if it highlights. This has been available since Windows Vista.dealer_wins wrote: »With W10 the feature you want could be under settings, or the old control panel, or just not available anymore so Ccleaner is great in that extent.0
