Anyone used your lottoservice?

I got a voucher for 10 free draws via yourlottoservice dot co dot uk with the knitting magazine I subscribe to.
After checking their website my understanding is that for a certain fee (there are different options) they increase your chances to win on the National Lottery games.
They also offer lottery syndicate.
Obviously it is tempting to use up the free lottery lines but I want to learn more about the company beforehand in case this is a scam.

Providing you do not have to give them any card/bank details to claim the free lines you have nothing to lose.
Beyond that they are probably like all the others of this type of thing (not actually a scam but as misleading as possible) where only a tiny fraction of the money they get paid actually gets spent on tickets - I cannot tell from their website what the numbers are but I have seen others where as little as 10% gets spent on tickets, the rest is taken for expenses/profit - with many of them offering "deals" to new players and/or rewards to existing players to suck more people in.1 -
mjm3346, thank you for your reply. I think you are right about the fact that there is nothing to lose.
I will post my experience once I contacted them.0 -
If they have your name, address, DOB, sort code and account can they set up a standing order to withdraw money from your account?0

No because a bank requires your signature on a standing order mandate (unless you do it yourself with internet banking).
However you have given them sufficient information to set up a direct debit which these days does not require a physical signature.
I always tell myself if somebody want either my bank account details or card details they want to part me from my money! Take care.0 -
My mum signed up for this last month. She's 83 and it was an inbound sales call. She wasn't aware of what she'd signed up to. It appears to be an ongoing £45 per month "subscription". She has given them her card details, it's not a Direct Debit. She is beyond their 14 day cooling off period.
I've spoken to the company and have asked for an exception to be made and that they cancel the agreement. I've explained the situation and the vulnerable status of my mum. They have refused to cancel and just refer me to the terms and conditions. That tells me all I need to know about the type of company that they are.
I have a question. If I now cancel the card whose details they have with the bank, what could be the repercussions?
Thanks.1 -

From looking at their t's and c's you cannot cancel until 14 days prior to the end of your third month but....
They have a self exclusion policy which I believe is due to responsible gambling and they say you can call them and self exclude for a period of time or permanently. I'm not very up on the legal side of it but I don't think they could refuse a self exclusion within the first 3 months which could be a way around it.

Thanks Ash - many thanks for looking at those T's and C's! I've had a look at that section. It mentions cancelling payments for future "playing periods" and I think they consider the playing periods as 3 month blocks based on the conversations that I've had with them. with payments being taken each month.
I'm trying not to lose the next 2 £45 monthly payments (that form payments 2 and 3 of the first playing period) so I'm don't think that will help us out on that front. It will ensure nothing is spent beyond that, so that is a benefit.
Any thoughts on the card cancellation tactic?0 -
I've just read this good guide to Continuous Payment Authorities. They are better cancelled by the bank rather than by cancelling the card it seems, but it's not advised if you do genuinely owe the company the money.

I guess the question is would they pursue us for the missing payments?0 -

Depends what she signed up to, if it was a "continuous payment authority" MSE have an article here

Whatever method is used for the payments if they are not made the "lottoservice" may do nothing or decide to try and pursue it - if they had success in the first place by phoning they may well try "threatening" type calls, I also would not be surprised if the telephone number is sold on for other "chancers" to have a go.0 -
Any communication from YOURLOTTOSERVICE UK LTD advising you have won free lottery numbers is an elaborate scam to extract money from your bank account, read other peoples comments on this site.0
