Right Midnight Tboy.............luckily didn't take me too long, but I've got really depressed going through the old recipes and remembering how much I used to make before I started working again!:rolleyes::o
This is one I've always made (out of an old Betterware recipe book);
Hallowe'en Soup (Makes 2.25 litres (4 pints)
2 tbs oil
2 onions - chopped
2 carrots - chopped
2 celery sticks - chopped (can leave out)
250g (8oz) swede - chopped (I substituted the swede for the pumpkin)
2 x 397g tins of tomatoes
1 tbs tomato puree
2 tsp salt (and some pepper)
1 tsp soft brown sugar
1.5 litres (2.5 pints) water
1 bouquet garni- Heat oil in a large pan, add onions and fry until softened.
- Stir in carrots/celery/swede/tomatoes with their juice.
- Add remaining ingredients, season with pepper to taste.
- Bring to boil, cover and simmer for 40 minutes, until veg are tender.
- Cool slightly, remove the bouquet garni, then blend with a hand blender/food processor until smooth, then serve.
Pumpkin Soup (serves 6-8)
Cut the lid off the pumpkin (the one in the pic has been cut jaggedly as opposed to cut straight off) and scoop out the flesh, so that you can serve the soup in the shell.
1 tbs oil
25g (1oz) butter
1 onion - chopped
3 carrots - chopped
2 potatoes - chopped
375g (12oz) pumpkin flesh - chopped
salt and pepper
1 tsp soft brown sugar
900 ml (1.5 pints) vegetable stock
4 sheets of fresh lasagne- Heat the oil and butter in a large saucepan, add the onion and fry until softened (about 5min).
- Add the remaining vegetables and stir well. Add the salt and pepper and the stock, bring to the boil, Cover and simmer for 30 mins, until veg are tender.
- Puree, then return to the pan.
- Cut the lasagne into stars and moon shapes with small cutters and !!! to the soup. Simmer for about 5 mins until the pasta is cooked.
- Pour into the pumpkin shell to serve, the stars and moons look good floating around on the top, keep lid on to keep heat in.
Pumpkin Cookies
Pumpkin Muffins - Well you never know!
Pumpkin Spice Bread
Anyone for a bit of sculpting! :T
Anyone for a bit of cheating?
These pics are quite arty! :eek:Honorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Sainsburys are now down to 99p from £3.49
Yeah they were but when I was in the store in Calcot on Sunday the pumpkins were already degrading to the point were some were developing holes and getting moudly. Which put me off buying them. Local farms, farmers markets or farm shops are the way to go.0 -

My wife works at Tesco, and last night she said they had a 3 more pallets of Pumpkins come in.
So there is new stock coming in.;)
I always assumed they just got 1 pallet per shop.
Price is now 98p:DNo Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
I really wish that supermarkets would stock pumpkins until December instead of whisking them away the day after Halloween. Or is it the Great Pumpkin coming to take his rejected children home?
As a Yank living here I really would like fresh pumpkins until December. I really have no place to store them in my house until Thanksgiving.
Oh, you can get tinned pumpkin in Waitrose. On the label is a recipe for a great and very easy pumpkin pie. I cheat and buy already made pie crusts and the pumpkin mixture makes 2 pies.0 -
B&Q also stock them although they are more expensive than local supermarkets. You can ask for price promise though as long as you are within ten miles of nearest competitor.0
