Sports Direct!! Returns!!

I'm rather baffled this evening by Sports Direct returns. I ordered 3 pairs of heelys, one is the wrong size and all three are obviously returns or ex shop floor soiled stock judging by the state of them. I had hoped to just go into their shop and ask them to exchange them for new pairs but it says on the website I have to return by post and I have to pay the postage, even if they made the mistake, not only that they can then decide whether to refund or exchange at their discretion! How do they get away with this, I use Ebay and have to jump through hoops over returns. I've never come across a major shop with such a return procedure before. These heelys are Christmas presents so am now up the proverbial creek as there is no way they can be returned and new ones sent out to me in time. Has anyone successfully been into the shop and been given an exchange as I'm going to give it a go tomorrow. Would appreciate any advice, I don't see why I should have to pay to send them back, I've already paid click and collect!

Well...
Sports Direct are a very "by the book" company! For the most part they actually do things legally, but on the very extreme.
To address your queries:
- You legally have to send the item back to the place you received it from. If you order from the online site then you need to return it back to the online site/warehouse. Most companies actually accept in-store returns as a "goodwill gesture", but Sports Direct most likely won't/don't.
- You don't need to pay to send them back if faulty/not as described, and if you do then it should be reimbursed (but speak to them about what method they'd reimburse you for, they may see 1 day guaranteed delivery @ £10 as excessive). As per previous user, a FREEPOST address exists..
- If the item is faulty, not as described or not fit for purpose then Sports Direct have to either replace, repair or refund the item. THEY can choose the remedy. This is in the Consumer Rights Act*
- I believe that Consumer Contract Regulations also allow you to CANCEL the contract if you so choose*
*I'm no longer an expert on these and my knowledge is more based on the old legislation, so there may be some slight inaccuracies.0 -
They used to offer a "returns label" with your purchase (if they still do).
They screwed a few of my orders up in the past so if you do ever decide to use them again I recommend adding that on!0
