Off with stress - acceptable activities

  • Shortcrust - that sounds like a very supportive culture indeed.

Sarastro - it’s a combination of personal stress which has been increased by work pressures. A wee walk along the canal is just what I need. I indeed to go back just after Christmas depending on how I’m doing.
  • I didn’t realise this about unions lincroft1710, I shall look into it.
  • I'm rather envious that people have jobs where their employer cares about their health!

Where were you on 10th October 2017 when it was World Health Mental Awareness day? No one can guarantee anymore that no one cares.

I knew someone who's Supervisor picked up someone on there team was down before they knew about it - thanks to the sessions laid on by a company toward acknowledging above date.

During recruitment, an employer rejected my application to work a later shift - at first, no I didn't get it and couldn't see the problem but I do now, under some sort of duty of care and what would have been my wrongful understanding of the business operation. It even ended up if they asked me to ever swap to do the later shift I would want to cry! And to think that was the position I pushed/went for.

Does your employer use a "Back to work" plan to help you return to work? These can be good to "officially" outline what you are doing to help get yourself fit enough to return. Doing "normal" out and about things would certainly be a good step.
  • Caronc, yes they’ve got a return to work process and an employee assistance number. I’ve had counselling which was arranged via my GP. Originally I couldn’t get out of bed but now I’m starting to improve. Good and bad days but progress at least.

Good, in that case get some of the activities you want to do included in the plan

Viksviks84 - no not in a union, the company doesn’t have one.

    ha.

Companies don’t have unions, employees do. And you have a perfect right to join one.
One of my colleagues, also off with stress, is currently undertaking a phased return to work, negotiated by his union and with a work to rule also agreed by union, so all negotiated as to what employee will/will not do to alleviate stress and prevent a relapse.

ETA have now seen lincroft has already said what I said in my first sentence, so apologies to lincroft.

The union would be there to support and defend you.
