Hi all
You're probably all aware that there are some fantastic deals around at the moment for the voice control thingys. I was going to dive in and buy one but I'm not sure which device is compatable with our NEST central heating control. The Waters are also muddied given that all 4 of us in the house own iPhones.
Therefore, please let me know which you guys use with NEST.
Thanks

While I don't have it myself so can't give you personal experience, there is a page on compatible products here.

Both Google Home and Amazon echo are compatible with Nest products.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Snake oil all of them, does it save you money errm nope.
Add the cost of the thermostat, the device to control it how much will you save on their predicted life span. How much weight will you put on by sitting on your a55 rather than getting up and turning it up/down. Smart meters dumb idea, you can get them at no extra cost from your energy supplier ...really? they up the cost of energy to make up for the cost of providing them for free. Who is paying for the alternative power sources , yep you are. Now alternative sources of energy are not a bad idea especially in saving the planet that one is a given , it's a good idea, but why do governments and us keep paying subsidies to these less efficient sources. Carbon taxes and trading in such things are just like bitcoin it will burst eventually, especially since Mr Trump doesn't want to join in with the save the planet regime. I wonder how much CO2 the wild fires in California are contributing to global warming, compared to the California mayor's take on that these fires will be more regular because of global warming!
Totally off topic I know, and rant over, enjoy your white summer solstice and your Christmas barbecue party

Yes, but, everybody in the UK is paying for them, not just the people with smart meters, so the smart move is to have one (excluding the compatibility issue, which I believe from something I heard Martin say is being resolved with the next generation of meters).0 -
And your point is?:)debitcardmayhem wrote: »Snake oil all of them,Etc etc etc..Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I use Google Home Mini with my Nest - "Hey Google turn on the heating" etc
However, there's a slight issue where maybe 1 in 5 times it'll reply "OK, turning on the Nest" but nothing will happen.0 -
I don't understand why anyone would want to spend an extra £9 per month - just to be able to control their heatng / lights etc remotely - surely, if you want to warm up your house - you simply manually turn your heating on ?Aubrey_Thicket wrote: »Hi all

Why would you want to waste energy when you are not even at home ?
Plus - why, on earth would anyone want to remotely turn their lights on / off ?
And as for washing machines/ovens etc ..... its a fad !!
The cost of the whole set up must be at least £500 as well ?
Call me a luddite - but can someone please explain to me how this saves energy/money ?0 -

You are a Ludite.;)...It's not a fad, it's the future. Who said it saves energy/money?
Manually turning on the heating so the house is toastie on arrival is difficult when on a trip.:) Timers and Thermostats are nothing new.
The £9 a month is only payable if you get Nest fitted by British Gas and have it on the drip AFAIK. You can pay for it in one go if you want.
There are many other controllers out there.
Mine cost me nothing extra, they were part of the offer on the boiler (Vaillant), and there is no onward cost. I already owned a smart phone and the app was free. The GH was bought for controlling music throughout the house, so the heating, lights etc are a bonus.
I doubt anyone will change the mindset of those who don't want to partake in home control. Your puzzlement though is mildly amusing and reminds me of the attitudes to mobile phones some decades back - It's just a fad - :rotfl:Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

Please note that the old manual room stats are not very accurate,i find my nest controler has reduced my gas bills compared to last year?.
And its great to land at the airport up the heating and get back to a warm house,im now trying to find one that will feed the cat.0 -
As another person said... we got the Nest as part of a boiler deal. There is no monthly charge etc. I am baffled at some comments about this all costing extra money??? We already have iPhones.
So surely the only extra money I’m going to have to pay now is for my google home mini.
Is that correct?
Thanks all.0
