we have lots of debris to get to the tip as they are starting to charge from 1st April
That's ridiculous - it's just asking for an explosion of fly tipping !!

It's bad enough that I can't take anything to the tip unless I'm in a car. Means it piles up in the house for 12 months until I have enough to make it worth doing a tip run. I've delivered mail in another area where the residents are allowed to walk in, which would be ideal for me when I just have a couple of small bits (like the 2 kettles on my pile - one stopped working, the hinge lid on the other broke and I was told not to return it). If my car doesn't pass the MOT in July I'm unlikely to be able to replace it, so that means always having to look to OH to take away my tip rubbish when he comes visiting - and while I know he won't mind it doesn't seem right to always put it onto him to do when it's my rubbish :o

It is ridiculous - theyve been charging here for years - £45!! Yes its for up to four items but if you only have one or two its not good value at all.

Its false economy because, as you say people flytip here all the time and the council have to clear it anyway.

They make it really hard to dispose of anything here - wont take recycling unless its all been washed out and spotlessly clean and I had several ongoing battles before they agreed to me having a larger bin for the twinbabies nappies - we only have fortnightly collection so would they prefer I left them in binbags on the road??!
Total debts £21050! now £10941. 76. Total extra income made in Jan22 £109. 27 Feb 22 £45.25 Total extra income made in 2022 £154.52 Aiming for debt free at 45 - 41 months to go!

The only time we get charged is for 'bulky waste collections' where the council send a team out to pick up from us. Our charges for the first such collection in a 12 month period suddenly look to be very, very reasonable......

    How much does it cost?

    • £10.50 for one collection of up to three bulky waste items per property in a 12 month period
    • One or two extra items can be added to the collection at a cost of £5.25 per item
    • Extra collections in a 12 month period will cost £79 each.

  • It's totally crazy...you're absolutely right that it will lead to more fly tipping- complete false economy as the odd prosecution they do make ends in low fines for offenders and exorbitant legal costs for the council! but that seems to be part for the course...no common sense allowed!! ;)

Good news...we have oil!! :D busy weekend ahead now but I'm actually looking forward to it!!:rotfl:
  • I hope everyone is doing well :) I have now changed my frugal lifestyle and completely following Dave Ramsey's baby steps as is my partner. I think I am a little bit obsessed! And this may be to my hilarious detriment a little bit this month as an over-payment I made on the credit card (£392) that I forgot hadn't cleared and then I made another one (£800) based on minusing all my bills and and a budget for a childrens charity reunion weekend away from my bank balance. Doh! I have moved a few standing orders so I should be fine and make all my payments but that'll teach me for being impatient! I have worked really hard this month and I have paid an extra £1560.12 on my credit card this month. Exhausting but I should hopefully be debt free by July. I have sold over £300 worth on ebay and there are still more things to go. I'm excited about it but it is so tiring - does anyone feel the same?
CC2-Total paid in March £1560.12/ Max credit card amount £6747.03/ £5098 to go!

Well, today was much more frugal than yesterday!! My weekly groceries came to £31.52, but that included some toiletries and two big Easter eggs. Pleased with that.

I had a lovely (cheap) dinner tonight - jacket spud with tuna and salad. Tuna was 33p a while ago.

I'm slowly working down my stocks. Im really hoping to hit them hard over the Easter break as I'll be home for two weeks. All work can be done from home, which makes cooking so much easier.

    Morning Everyone :)

LittlrGingerFox I do find it exhausting. I'm trying to get my car loan paid off and so for a while there I was working 6/7 days a week. I've realised that at 44, I just don't to be working to so much and my house was starting to just feel like a storage unit because I was never there. So I've dialled it back to 3 weekend shifts a month. But It's still tiring!
I went to sell some old jewellery on the weekend and got £50! £50!! Not exactly the hundreds I was hoping for, but it does allow me some closure on an old relationship so it's good that it's gone...but £50! I still can't believe it...
I also have to bite the ebay bullet and get some stuff up for sale. I'm dragging my feet there.

Long term I'm wanting to get about 5 different income streams going to I can drop back 'work' hours, but I have no idea what those will be..lolol...ideas gratefully received :)

On the frugal front; I've had yet another stern talking to myself and I'm again back on the wagon. It seems to be a monthly thing currently so I think when I get to the month when it doesn't happen then I'll have turned a corner. I'm using up things from the fridge and freezer til payday/shopping delivery day so it's pasta bakes and beefy mince meals and I'm working at getting up a little bit earlier in the morning so I can the meal prepared/cooked before work.

I came home on my break yesterday and sat in the garden with a cuppa. It was such a lovely spring day. :)
I've written a list on things I need to do and things I'd like to buy for this year. I'm looking forward to getting started.

    Have a good day :)

No money left my purse today for spending. I did empty out the leftover change from it for my xmas tin. About £8 I think.

Will need to buy my nephew a birthday card at some stage this week, which will mean entering a sm... And I want to buy some spuds at morries as they're on offer, and I've almost finished using up the xmas ones.

A!di are reducing some veg (including 2.5kg of spuds) to 19p on Wednesday. I think the FB post I saw said red/white cabbage, swede, parsnips and 1kg carrots as well.

    Morning Everyone :)

It's been a spendy few days here.

I cam home from work ready to mow the lawn and my electric lawn mower, that my son mowed the wire of (but fixed apparently), didn't work and shorted out my freezer socket so a new lawn mower and a pack of fuses later all is well.
I've also done my monthly shop and bought some Easter eggs and bought some special tooth brushes on my dentists recommendation.

I'm hoping that's it for the 'extra' expenses and normal service shall resume.

Hope you all have a good day :)
