Question from a Technophobe!!

The other day, I decided to dust my laptop keyboard to get rid of biccy crumbs and a fair bit of dust. I gave it a good rubbing with a microfibre cloth. The laptop was open on desktop at the time. My problem now is that I can't shut it down from the Windows menu and have to use the main power off button!!
My question is, could it be something I have done while dusting or is it just a coincidence. How can I fix the problem in very simple terms. My laptop is a HP and am on Windows 10.
Many thanks for any help you can give this old Technophobe! xx:)

1. Why ? turn it off first then wipe it...too late of course
2. Turn it off and on and try again
3. Don't Eat Biscuits
Answer use a usb keyboard and then we may see what the problem is .

It sounds like you have changed the Power options. Go into settings and set them to the way you prefer. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Please be more clear.
Do you mean that the option has disappeared from the menu ?
If so, what options do you see there where you are expecting "shut down" to be ?
If you mean that the option is still there but it doesnt work then please expand.
Do you get error messages ?
What exactly happens ?
The answer to your problem is dependent on this information,
Which is why 137 people didnt answer, as they couldnt be bothered prying this information out of you and your question is not possible to answer without it0 -
Thank you all for your suggestions, I'll try all of them eventually!
In the meantime, can anyone recommend crumbless biccies? xx0 -
Jaffa cakes? Two bites and they're gone, and no crumbs!

When you sort out your problem and the keyboard is working again, here are tips about cleaning it:
*NEVER do it when the PC is switched on. (as you discovered)
*Carefully turn the OPEN, switched off laptop upside down gently, support it and tap the base of the laptop (not forcefully) with the flat of your hand, under all of the keyboard area. Watch the detritus fall out. If you have a hand hoover that is not too powerful, use that about 6" away from the keyboard.
*NEVER use a can of air: it will blow moisture into the keyboard at pressure.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.
