“Great news - you can upgrade early . Flexi upgrade for a fee of £230.23. This will reduce as you near your contract end ..”

I’m in a position where I could , but not sure if I should . Worth doing??
Currently on iPhone se .

Almost forgot to mention , I have a £120 gift card from Apple also :)

  • Not sure of the relevance of the gift card to the question. I'd never pay anything to "upgrade" and never do anyway, despite having mulitple contracts at any one time. By avoiding the fee and waiting the shiny new toy should also be available at a lower contract cost by the time you're due to renew. But then, it's your (hundreds of pounds of) money.
  • Thanks Mobile junkie . Yes is does look like I’m better off forgetting about it and await the call in 2019. The more I look at it, it may be a way of them pushing a more expensive phone ( you know ehich one ) that I don’t need .

As for the Apple gift card , it could be used towards a new phone but if I’m already in a contract then maybe not .
  • Looks like you are stuck with Vodafone... nothing wrong with the iPhone SE, we have one each on SIM only, neither with Voda though.

Don’t fall for the “you are eligible for an upgrade” trick, it’s to get you to sign up for another 2 years.

    Thanks for that .
I nearly left them a few months ago They messed up my application for a sim only ( long story). This is when I got the se
I’m with them for broadband also . Been with Vodafone since I first got a Mobile back in 1999.
Pros and cons with all .:)

you don't have to upgrade to spend your gift card on a new phone, you couldn't use it with Vodafone anyway
  • Thanks glentoran :)
  • My upgrade prices/offers were all rubbish with vodafone.

So I ended up moving in the end and taking a Virgin SIM only black Friday deal for £8 a month. 3gb data 1200 minutes unlimited txts.

Even the vodafone SIM only deals were expensive in comparison.

Touch wood the phone reception has been good so far.

Could sell your current phone, add that to the gift card amount then when your contract is up switch to sim only, win win

I did think of that . Was gonna go pay as you go , but think sim only contract is the way to go .

I think you will find most mobile phone contracts sold these days are for SIM only, they offer greater flexibility and usually quite a bit cheaper. The shops and networks push phone + SIM packages as they are more profitable for them.

Prices fluctuate up and down from week to week on SIM deals, it pays to keep a watch on prices so you know what is good value when you want to make a move.

If moving to another network, Rootmetrics have an app that shows user measurements of data rates as well as coverage, for the 4 UK networks. It clearly won’t guarantee in-building coverage, but it’s a guide and independent of the networks coverage prediction maps.

It’s also a good time to check the small print with regard to call cost capping (most don’t offer spending caps, especially on out of bundle calls), and roaming arrangements if you travel overseas.
