I bought for our kitchen R50 E14 LED Bulbs, LVWIT Reflector 4.5W 6500K Daylight / Cold White 350Lm Equivalent 40W Bulb Small Edison Screw Non-Dimmable Energy Saving Reflector Bulbs 6 Packs [Energy Class A+].

I originally bought one from Dunelm and that cost £4.00 and has a 25 year guarantee. However I got 6 bulbs from Amazon for £14.99 and no problems so far.

I switched to LED bulbs back in 2013 and no replacements have been needed to date (as expected). I ended up using Auraglow bulbs.

The no replacement thing is great.

Even sorted out all my GU10 problems as with the non LED varients a couple went every few months.

How does this relate in any way to a question about domestic LED bulbs???
It doesn't. Its a weak excuse for Ross to spam his company.

Yes that's correct you need to go off the lumens. You can even get LED bulbs for flashlights now such as Maglite, check out this 220 lumen bulb here torchupgrades.com/gb/standard-maglite/17-maglite-led-upgrade-conversion-bulb-for-maglite-torch-flashlight-2d-2c-3d-3c-cree.html
Claimed "lumens " cannot be trusted at all. When the first LED torches first appeared the sellers were making wild claims which were just made up rubbish and they are worse now than ever..The bulbs will be the same. Just go on watts and keep off Ebay altogether buying these products unless you want to meet your maker.
Ebay is out of control completely now and none of it can be trusted for new electrical products in particular. Its teeming with dangerous s**t Chinese rubbish of the worst quality.
Right from day one Ebay has been dodgy to say the least but now its so bad I think the UK government should shut the corrupt U.S. company down completely.
Amazon is also getting to be a home for counterfeit shoddy goods too

I have been looking at LED bulbs too although I do note (at least what I have seen locally anyway) there are less BC compared to ES fittings.

It is good to note some types are dimmable too which is needed as I have two rooms still with a conventional 100W bulb in each simply as I have dimmer switch in each. The rest of the house has energy saving florescent bulbs still. I can recall years ago (mid 80's?) one of the first ones of these it was a tube in a glass bowl and very heavy.

What I am struggling it seems to find is a low "light" output one, as in something that is only as bright as a 'pygmy 15w' type bulb if that. Its not the wattage I know its the lumens, I actually need something "that dim" :D

thankfully ebay supplies ones with BC fittings.

You can get 3W LED candles. But might still be too bright for you.

Before I managed to get a 15w Pygmy, I had a BC to ES adaptor and a tiny 10w ES bulb, which was just about right all in all but with the adaptor it was a bit too 'tall' , the 10w I think was meant for a fridge or cooker perhaps.

I'll sort something. :) Its not important, ultimately the single Pygmy will do if nothing else.

It is good to hear positive feedback about the newer LED bulbs as it was something I was half looking at.

The 'very early' one which weighed a ton back then (80's!, was given it actually) looked a bit like this

The ones I have now look like this although they are a few years old and take a while to 'get bright' so LED's are likely soon I guess...

I generally buy my LED bulbs on the internet.
    800 lumen and above.
Something near daylight (cool light) approx 6000k or more. Never going back to the orange coloured bulbs.

    Reliability:
BAD: INTERLUX branded GU10s were a disaster. 3 out of 4 were replaced FOC due to failures in the first year and all the replacements failed within another year or so.
BAD: DIALL from B&Q. 100% failure rate within 2 years (conventional shape). Some people on the Lemonfool forum also report failures.

GOOD: MINISUN. I have about 6 GU10s and have had them several years with no failures. Plus a couple of conventional shape bulbs.

GOOD: INTEGRAL (Toolstation GU10). Have had 4 of these with no failures in 7 years.

Have some conventional shape bulbs from Wickes and a Philips branded one with no failures, although they have not been installed that long.
  • For what it’s worth:

...I bought a pack of 10 x GU10 250Lm 4w led’s from Screwfix on 26.10.14;...fitted 8 that same day in my kitchen and all 8 are still functioning perfectly,...none of them has faded,...not even slightly.

At the same time I bought a pack of 6 x GU10 281Lm 4.2W leds;..fitted 4 in my bathroom,..however, one started to fade within hours and was replaced, They are all all still functioning perfectly.

Manufacturer is ‘LAP’ in both cases;...Screwfix still sell LAP led’s..

I've had my first failure of a GU10 4watt LED after seven years - it was from LED hut. Fortunately I've got a spare.
