Well thanks to you lot on this thread I've just ordered a mooncup from ethical superstore. They are on offer at 17.99 and with a voucher code there is 5% off your first order over £20 and 10% cashback from Topcashback. Result.
I'm almost excited about my 'time of the month' is that a bit wrong :D

I've just ordered a Mooncup and am looking forward to giving it a try!

I only ever used tampons but have always been subconsciously afraid of them and the chemicals used, so I'm going to try it. The SeaPearl looks interesting too, it's nice to know there are alternatives.

My main reason for moving from the disposable method is obviously, the fact that they are bad for the environment. For this reason, I've also already decided that I'll use reusable nappies when I eventually have a baby, so I think it's hypocritical not to switch to reusable sanitary methods.

I'm also very against testing on animals, and most tampon/sanitary towel companies still test their ingredients, or get other companies to do it for them, so it's been coming for a long time I think!

    :D

I realise that the above posts were about a month ago, but just wanted to add my bit!

Have been using sea pearls for a couple of years now and they're fantastic. Can be a bit messy sometimes, but very effective.

I also have the "keeper" which is the same I believe as the mooncup, and haven't gotten on as well with but it depends on your shape I think! It can take a lot of perseverance, but there are some forums where they can give you tips on how to use etc.

  • Hmm . . . had a look through the threads and ordered 6 pads from weenotions.co.uk. Which I'm happy about because at this very moment I am NOT COMFORTABLE !!

It's funny how people are weirded out about different things. I don't have any problem with the idea of washable pads, but the idea of tampons/mooncups/sponges completely grosses me out. I suppose it's because I'm not squeamish about blood but I'm squeamish about private parts. Or things in private parts, to be precise. With one exception, of course :p

I made my own and they're better than the store bought ones. I did them so that they fold into a little pouch and when I get a minute during the easter hols I'll be making some more up. I found a site where women swap ones they've made so that they can compare patterns and stuff so I might make some up to swap and see what other women think.

Since my conversion my periods have been lighter and not so much stomach cramp which I've always had really bad even after having the implanon fitted.

GlasweJen, can you post a link to the swap site please? I think there may be a few of us who would be interested in having a look :)

A while back I found a good site for people making their own pads, I don't know if it's the same one though:

Isn't it typical that the minute I get round to sewing these my computer takes a virus and clears all my stored favourites?

Unfortunately I can't find the site I mentioned but if any women on MSE want to start a swapping club then that can probably be arranged, unless there are rules against this?
