Hi, i love the idea of mooncups but sadly can't use them..but if i could, i definately would invest in one!

For now i'm sticking to normal tampons, as i cant see much of an alernative right now. I dont want people having a go at me for not using more environmentally friendly things though.

  • Actually, keelykat, your post was one that stuck out to me in the other thread, I meant to comment on it.

I'm all for women making their own choices. In fact I vastly prefer your view to those people who just immediately dismiss it and think that anybody who does use alternative methods is "disgusting".

What I would love to see is people (notice I didn't just say "women") being educated about the choices, and then to make their own decisions. Well done you for posting in a thread like this and giving your opinion without slagging anybody off! :T

I have the depo contraceptive injection so haven't had a period for 18 months, but prior to that I used to use the mooncup. It's easy to use and definitely moneysaving. I never had any problems with infection, although it did occassionally leak (this was probably more to do with user error)!!! I'd definitely recommend it.

If you're looking for washable sanitary towels, most of the washable nappies sellers stock them.
:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j

Keelykat, its a very personal decision and one we should all feel free to make for ourselves. Dont let anyone make you feel guilty for making your choice. What suits one person will not suit another, for all sorts of reasons.

We did have a few very childish comments on one of the threads, hope this one stays sensible! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Sorry - I am another disposable tampon fan - I used to get in such a mess with towels and TBH the look of the mooncup scares the hell out of me!!!!

I keep looking at Mooncup in Boots and nearly bought one once. I might get round to buying one one day.

I thought that at first...took me almost 12 months of 'thinking about it' before buying a mooncup...and when I got it out of the box it wasn't so scary.
Within the first day of using it, I wished that I had bought one when I first found out about them!! I know everyone is different, but I got on with mine from day one.

I find it incredibly comfortable, much more discreet, more hygienic (both personal hygiene and my bathroom bin), less mess, more eco-friendly and the big bonus of saving a fortune on buying tampons every month.
Although I still continue to be fascinated by the measuring markers on the side of it (why are they there??!!), but maybe I'm just odd!!

Periods have become far less of a hindrance for me since using the mooncup and I would recommend giving it a try. Boots sell them, but online shops tend to be a bit cheaper. :)
  • not too sure if these are any good but they are a uk suplierthis thread has definatly made me think about re-usable like another poster said if we leaked onto our clothes or bed sheets we would just wash them out so why not use reusable i mean everyone is entitled to there own opinion im not saying they are for everyone but seems a good idea to me http://www.plushpants.com/

That link doesn't work for me, try this one:

    Also for anyone interested there's a very helpful thread on the Green and Ethical board about mooncups;
    Mooncup Discussion Thread

If you do a search in the G&E board there's loads of info on washables as well as real nappies for anyone who'd be interested :)

I converted to the Mooncup thanks to MSE. :D And very pleased with it I am too. :T (Granted I've recently had a baby and haven't used it in almost a year though :D)

I do seem to recall a certain yuck factor when I first heard about it :o, but I gradually got used to the idea. And anyway, once you've given birth (especially twice!) blood, bodily fluids and functions really don't scare me any more. Personally I do find it an easier, cheaper, more comfortable and less messy option.
