Oof! Decent insulation makes such a difference although it sounds like you've got a bit of a project on your hands.

I've only used the wood burner in the lounge this winter (which helps heat the whole fabric of the house) and only tested the gas central heating, but was spurred into commenting as I've just been into the well- insulated loft for cold weather gear and it was really cold up there. Insulation will make such a difference when you eventually get it in.
