Carphone Warehouse & Alcatel £50 trade-in offer - huge anomaly
Options
Be aware that Carphone Warehouse a running a promo on several Alcatel handsets where one can trade-in an old handset and receive £50 for it from Alcatel.
However, there is a huge anomaly from the terms stated on CPW's website which states that the claim must be started within 30 days of handset purchase, whereas on Alatel's site it states that claim cannot be started until 30 days AFTER the purchase has elapsed.
I've just spent 30 minutes in an online chat with CPW who give me the impression that they can't be bothered to investigate this. They want me to contact Alcatel. What's the point since if Alcatel have set the rule then why would I need to contact them to verify its clarity? Anyhow, be aware if you decide to take this offer up.
The relevant details are here:
Alcatel's term 7 states:
Claims
To participate in the Promotion and claim the Reward, visit https://www.alcateloffers.com/Aseries-tradein complete the online claim form, enter IMEI number and submit a copy of your proof of purchase in the form of a receipt or invoice (the 'Claim') after 30 days from the date of purchase as indicated on the receipt or invoice. The date of purchase counts as day one of the claiming window. The final date in which a claim can be submitted is 23:59 on 11th February 2018. Claims submitted outside the claim window will be rejected.
CPW's terms state:
2. Once you receive your new phone, start your claim by registering your details with Alcatel here http://www.alcateloffers.com/Aseries-tradein including your IMEI number and proof of purchase within 30 days of the date of purchase. The final date in which a claim can be submitted is 23:59 on 29th January 2018.

This link does look like it has the correct info, as you say though the pop up message on their website says within 30 days, which looks to be wrong.0 -

Yes, you're right. The link you have provided is a facsimile of the wording from Alcatel's website. Yet CPW's own pop-ups on the product detail contradict this and after having spent an age online with them they want me to get in touch with Alcatel to confirm the detail! I could do that, and of course we know which will be the right terms, but CPW's customers referring to the popup details of the terms wouldn't know that there were two sets of terms available and which are absolutely at odds.
You would have thought that they'd have been thankful that someone had pointed it out to them, if only in order to correct it quickly and thus avoid torrents of customer contacting them. But no, not CPW, too much like common sense for them!0 -
Carphone Warehouse have today taken action to correct the anomaly on their website.
The terms and conditions of the Alcatel offer, as published in a popup on CPW's website are now showing the correct detail, ie you start a claim for the £50 cashback 30 days AFTER you make your purchase, and not WITHIN 30 days of making your purchase.
They've kindly offered me a £50 gesture, so I'm a happy chappy!0
